Gear shift shortener

One more thought about the short shifter -- or, shift shortener -- I'm still not certain what to call it. I'm sitting here at my desk, looking at the stock gear linkage. Those of you have made the change will know what I'm talking about. The stock piece is rather roughly finished. It is adequate to the task, but not much more. The MTech piece is beautifully finished, smooth to the touch, and almost sculptural, like a piece of modern art. MTech obviously does very high quality work.

Oh, and I'm very happy with the change and the way the transmission feels.

I'll be installing mine tonight along with the BOV. Needless to say, I am excited.

Lol yeah I'd be excited to lol ill probably be doing my taillight tints and front lip lol good luck with the install hope it goes smoother than mine did lol

Wow what a difference it makes. Well worth it. The stupid stock dust cap snapped one of my needle nose pliers in half....lol.

The BOV sounds awesome. Unfortunately my phone has terrible sound quality, so it is VERY hard to hear. But I, myself can hear it just fine with the windows up. I will post the one video where you can *slightly* hear it

I installed mine this afternoon. Wanted to echo the sentiment of others that jmbneaf's guide was a big help.

I'm not terribly mechanically inclined so it took me considerably longer than 45 minutes....actually the "dust cap" probably took that long (Wow that thing was never meant to come out, bent some needle nose pliers for me as well).

I managed to drop the clip that came with the kit, and it's never to be seen again I fear (hope I don't regret that later), but the stock clip seems to fit just fine after a bit of fiddling.

Just messing with the shifts after the install, 1 - 2 still seems a bit balky, but overall it's a great improvement for the car in general and anybody looking for shorter shifts should pull the trigger.

took a few weeks off from visiting the site and return to this wonderful thread. short shifter ordered! Looking forward to the improvement. I know this was my favorite mod on my previous car.

went to order, they are out of stock.

Kranz, If you can hold out until Monday I might be able to sell you mine cheaper than a new one. I went and looked at a new car this morning. Waiting for the dealer to let me know if he can locate the car I want. If he can, I'll be taking all the goodies off my GS and trading it in next week. Let me know if your interested.

Def interested, keep in touch... Though I'm sad to see you selling her already 🙁
What car you looking at?

I really love the GS, but my wife is letting me get a new CTS-V I'll definitely let you know by tomorrow evening because the dealer should be getting my car in by Thursday. I'll be taking the shifter and DP off and selling them. I'll PM you and let you know about the shifter.

Does anyone have any idea's when this part will be back in stock? Definitely want one asap.

Has anyone installed these on a 2011 turbo? Do they fit the same? I know there's a couple different models to choose from.

Finally, as the originator of this thread, installed my gear shift shortener from BNR last evening. As identified by others, excellent investment. Nice crisp, short shifts. Should have been like this from the factory, eh?!
Also, great 'how to' by "jmbneaf" and his blog @ http://blog.jimsjump.com.
One question for those who installed the kit, including Jim: any interference with the original clip? The c-clip supplied with the kit is rather flimsy, not sure of the need for it?

It appears flimsy but it's hardened steel and I've used it for the last few months without issue and two ling road trips lol no issues with it to date .. as I mentioned before though, I did have issues with the stock clip .. it's just too bulky for that gap and has the tendency to get caught up as it did many times for me .. I'd advise just sticking with what's supplied in the kit

Big thanks to Jim for that guide, I just ordered mine and will definitely be following your guide!

These throws are pissing me off more now that I drove my buddies WRX the other weekend, it had the SPT short throw as well, but my god anything to decrease mine is worth it:headbang:

Installed over the weekend. I cannot recommend this mod enough. The shifter feels way better, the 3rd gear isn't as shaky/jumpy., and the reduced throws make it more than worth it from that aspect alone. Install was a pain getting that cap off, but once that was done it was easy!

Also got a turbosmart kompact dual port BOV, allows for full recirc or a "hybrid" like the forge motorsports I had before. My buddy works at a shop and turbosmart is one of their vendors so he ordered for me, if you are interested, feel free to message me and he can prob get them shipped out to you pretty cheap. BNR didn't have the adjustable one last time I checked 🙁
