Has anyone replace their Tourx wheels?

I did not change wheels since liking them more and more.
Upgrading tires to 255 45 ZR 18's increased unsprung weight by 3 lbs a tire, per tire rack specs.

@WAGONTHEDOG - Is that a VW Westfalia T4 parked behind that sweet Audi?

Sprayed wheels black

I took Rob Z's and split screened it with my car for a before/after view. Black wheels definitely give it a more bad-ass look. The wheel cladding also doesn't stand out as much - which I like. Looks great.

I'd love to see those on a red TourX.

Sprayed wheels black
Just paging through all the TourX history here as a new owner. Those all black wheels are savage. Nicely done. How did you do it?

If you spray the wheels with paint the paint will chip off and then they will look awful. If you get them powder coated it won't chip off since it's baked on in an oven which is the best way to go.

Some people also spray wheels with Plasti-Kote and it's pretty durable. And it can be removed if it starts to peel then you can respray them or if you decide you don't like it. They even make it specially for wheels.

It shouldn’t as long as all four wheels are identical in diameter. My winter setup is 0.1” different with no ill effects.

The gray wheel looks good!

Do you have a bathroom scale handy to get a weight on the stock wheels?

Color change on wheels can be budget, effect and length of use. Plasti-Kote types have limited colors, can be removed and are inexpensive. Painted have limitless colors, can be removed but to the natural finish in most cases and can range in budget on how they are done. Powered coated will have a range of colors and is dependent on the shops abilities or sources, a permanent solution as removal is difficult and budget would be heading towards the high side.

All 3 will work and if there is any failure it is most likely operator error where the correct process, material surface and choice of product, prep and application wasn't followed.

No matter how well you prep a wheel to be painted it will chip. Factory "painted" wheels aren't painted they are powder coated, that's why they don't chip.

When a rock hits the front of your car the paint chips. So according to what you say, the car companies don't know how to properly prep a car when it's painted, which we all know isn't true. Again you are contradicting what I say, when you don't know what you are talking about.

I'm trying to figure out why everything you say has to be so confrontational. There was nothing factually incorrect about what @2007LucerneCXL said.
But even if there were... you don't have to be so condescending all the time.

We are all here because we are looking for friendly conversation, advice, opinions, or have knowledge to share. Please knock it off.

Obviously you missed the part where he said all 3 processes will work, when in fact painting wheels doesn't work because the paint wont hold up no matter what.

Just another note on powered coating factory OEM wheels is that it will more than likely void the warranty, some aftermarket wheel manufacturer's also have this in there warranty statements.

One of the larger suppliers in the USA and Europe of OEM and aftermarket wheels also talks about painting, not powder coating, wheels and even mention about color matching them to the vehicle.

And because I come from a fact based and root cause background in the 90's GM had a paint issue called delamintion. I bought a used car from a private seller that was out of any factory warranty and got a complete paint job on GM's dime. So yes I do know what I'm talking about and the automotive manufacturing industry is still messing up paint jobs.

I can give more details on powder coating and painting, but I'm tired of having to deal with a person who's opinions have no factual meanings.
