K&N drop in filter recommended for GS owners

You are welcome. Have a safe trip home and be sure to post up your feedback about the filter.

I just checked and they do. No need to be scared:

Ahhhh, that'll teach me to rely on my iphone for my internet needs. Thanks!! 😀

You are welcome. Be sure to post up your impressions after you install the filter and take Blackarachnia for spin.

Another thing about the K&Ns. I like the fact that they might help with performance, but I have always bought them first and foremost for value. All my cars have them. And from what I can see, a replacement filter from GM costs about $35. These K&Ns pay for themselves in the long run.

I primarily purchased the filter hoping it would increase the noise of the turbo spooling up and releasing. The filter definately delivers. IMO, the car has a slightly better throttle response now as well and the fuel economy went from 19.7 to 19.8 yesterday. For investing $48.00, this filter is well worth it. Any 2011/2012 turbo Regal owners should buy one.

I am not affiliated with K&N , nor am I receiving any compensation from them.😀

I just ordered mine...how much louder did it actaully make The turbo spool up and blow off?
I do not have a decibel meter to give you an actual number. However, you can hear it no problem and the sound is the way it should have been from the factory.

There may be an improvement in sound, but I don't think the filter is the weak link in air-flow.

I would be more interested in replacement piping AFTER the turbo. Have any of you taken the engine cover off and looked at the piping between the turbo and intercooler? It is TINY and isn't even mandrel bent.

Can you possibly post a write up on installing the bypass valve? Pictures too?
Where did you purchase it from?

Thx

I am not sure where I heard it, but I had heard the filter "breathes" easier over its life due to the oil drying out over time, even with the particulate matter collection on the filter. This would help in increasing fuel mileage. Anybody else heard this? If this gets the sound, it is a much better option than the CAI. I have always been reluctant to go that route due to the risk of sucking up water.

On my TSX, there was a "noise dampening box" before the filter, I had modified it with a small bypass window allowing the sound to escape some. This gave a low "thrum" noise during acceleration and sounded great. I have checked the Regal and have not noticed the box anywhere, it may be between the front fender and engine bay liner. Any body been in there?

It actually just replaces the factory bpv thats on the turbo. It did increase the noise of the turbo spooling up some but still cant hear the dump off. Im hoping the k n filter will increase it even better. There is a link for it so i will try to find it and post

Where is the BPV and what did you replace it with? Where does it vent to? The atmosphere? I thought it would have vented into the intake like most factory ones do, but it doesn't. I'm guessing it just vents after the intercooler and back into the charged piping before the intercooler?

I installed the filter, which the air box was secured like Fort Knox (torx screw heads, one under the air hose so you had to remove that, and then two locking cam slots - really???)

I must admit I cannot hear anything different yet, but my ears are plugged from a head cold in China and the airplane ride home locked them in. I will post after my head clears, I also plan to do some 5 to 70 MPH runs with both filters to see if there is any difference.

Did anyone install the white "bug screen filter mesh" in front of the K&N filter?

Your head cold is definately the reason you are not hearing the turbo spool up and release. You will be happy with the result when your head clears up. I do not expect much of an decrease in time from 5-70 mph runs from just the filter. I left the mesh on the stock filter.

Have any turbo owners tried this filter yet?

Mine will be here tomorrow...let you know how it sounds.
