My GS exhaust project

Just returned form the install and I am very pleased with the result. I am currently uploading pictures to Photobucket and the video to Youtube. As we found out with the vehicle up on the lift, room is at a premium under the car. As much as I wanted to leave the resonator in place, it ended up being the only spot for the muffler to fit. So the resonator was cut out and the muffler welded in the same location. Cut out the stock mufflers and removed the tips to be welded to the new pipe running from the y-pipe to the bumper. Speaking of the y-pipe, we ended up utilizing the stock y-pipe. The install took about an hour and a half due to people coming in for vehicle inspections and asking general automotive questions. A big thank you to my friend Mike and his assistant Jim for doing the install.

Regarding the exhaust note. It is not ricer which I was worried about. It has a nice sound to it actually. In the cabin it sounds good with little drone. Also, you can hear the turbo spool up and release even more now.
Picture and video soon.

The video is tough to hear at certain times due to the traffic driving by. I will take another video at a different time in a quieter location.

Sounds great! I was hoping for a sound like that as opposed to the "ricer 4 banger" sound.

OMG. I'm in VT and will be traveling to MA this week. If you are near Beverly, MA I'd like to come check out the sound in person. That does sound very good. Inside video sound would also be helpful for seeing if there's any DRONE.

I reside in the other end of the state.

I am surprised at the lack of feedback considering this thread has has over 500 views since I posted the pictures and video yesterday and with how many folks seemed interested in how it turned out.

Sounds great. What was the total install time?

Thanks and from post #21:

Hey GTO. Thanks for the post, and the picture walkthrough was great.

For the video, the best sense I could get of the exhaust was the startup in the garage. Maybe because I cannot hear so well, but the background street noise really made it hard for me to hear the exhaust note on drive-by. I am anxious to hear another video over the weekend maybe in the driveway somewhere a little quieter.

But overall, I love the install and especially the ingenuity when at the moment; our only exhaust option is a $900-$1,100 wallet crusher.

Thanks for bringing another option to the Buick Forum. Once you get a real sense of how much you like it and how much you would recommend it. Maybe add to this thread, or start a new thread on the pieces needed, cost, so we could do the same at our muffler shops.

This weekend I will post up another video. I got some driving time in this morning. I can tell you there is little drone at all whether accelerating or just cruising. From inside the cabin when you mash the gas, at about 2500-3,000 rpm's is when the exhaust note really comes to life and sounds really good. I believe those two factory mufflers were choking the exhaust. Between the K&N drop in filter, removing the factory mufflers and installing the Borla muffler, the butt dyno indicates a slight improvement in acceleration. You can definately hear the turbo spool up and release quite a bit more now.

I keep checking back waiting for a better video. 😉

Thanks for the pics, I'm glad you are happy with how it turned out.

In my opinion, the CXL Turbo needs two mufflers to retain the OEM look. I posted up a video on another thread as an example of what I may do. The set up also appears to have the deeper exhaust note I'm looking for too.

I had the speakers turned way up and I hope that wasn't your car at the 1:32 mark. 🤔

It sounded good at startup and the driveby.

Post a closeup pic of the pipe near the finishing trim.

I just made the second video at an industrial park and it was nice and quiet. This was the first time I have heard the exhaust besides the other video and I absolutely love the sound of it. I am currently uploading it to Youtube.

Here is the second video:
