This morning I got the "shift to park" message on the DIC even though I was already in park. I tried putting in gear and back in park but got the message again. Turned off car and restarted and message went away. I think this has happened once before as well.

Temporary glitch? Concern? Anyone else ever have this happen?

2018 Sport back Essence red needle.

I've read a few people reporting same over in the FB group. I never did see them post what the fix was.

i had this problem with the 2017 to 2020 Malibu try -- You tube Chevy Malibu shift to park

Holden zb commodore here (Aus/NZ regal) and this issue is annoying as hell. It started by happening occasionally, a flicker as I turned the car off then progressed to refusing to allow me to completly power off my car because it thought it was not in park... Required me replacing the shifter - $700 NZD but replaced for free under warranty. Fully resolved and had not come back.

Thanks for the advice and info. Got an appointment for next week. Free loaner even.

I don't want to get stranded!

I just got my car back after the dealer replaced the accelerator pedal last week. Now, I'm seeing the shift to park message. I'm sure this is related. I'm still under warranty but this is now the 10th appointment for a warranty related issue since buying the car two years ago...

Hope it's a fast fix

My car did the shift to park message again today. This time it actually wasn't turning off the electronics. Luckily after pressing the shifter button several times the message went away. Appointment is on Wednesday so just need to make it that far without getting stranded!

I talked with the dealer over the phone this morning and he said that that message is usually related to a low voltage or battery issue. He seems convinced it's an easy fix but seeing that my battery is relatively new (within 6 months) I'm not so sure....

I'll report back when I find out more. Taking it in tomorrow.

From what I've read, the shift to park message is usually due to a faulty sensor in the shifter.

Just got back from the dealer and it was in fact NOT a battery issue but the shifting module itself. The car is under warranty still so they're ordering a new shifting console and will replace the whole thing. I was able to take the car back while they order the part.

That sounds similar to what I was reading about the Malibu's. Did they give you a timeine for when the part might arrive? I'm bringing in mine tomorrow.

No timeline other than, "it won't take long to get the part and about 1.5 hours of work to install."

Wonder if you'll hear something different tomorrow.

If it's something they can get in a day I really hope they can just get this done in one trip. I don't live very close to the dealer. But we shall see.

Got mine back already. Replaced shifter. Also offered to buy it for $1000 more than I paid last year.

I had to take my car in again as it wasn't the shifter after all. It's fixed now but the problem was the TCM (transmission control module) wasn't carrying a signal.

I have been getting this message recently too, is the video fix the cause? I am just out of warrantee and hope it will be covered.

TourX in the shop for 2 days and they don't have a clue about the shift to park. Wonder what today will bring?

I found a fix to the shift to park. I'm still testing it but since I installed the harness I have yet to get the message.

It's part #84733196 i grabbed it on ebayfor $9.30

You need to pull up the center console, it doesn't need removed or any other wires unplugged. You can slide the sup holder cover forward and slowly and carefully pry/tug up on the center console from the rear cupholders. Its all just clipped in, no screws, I believe there is a post on this site with photos if someone could link it. Find the wire harness clip plugged into the back of the shifter assembly. Remove that harness and plug in the jumper harness then plug the harness you removed into the female end of the jumper. Put the center console back together and you're done. It takes about 5 minutes to fix and cost less than 10 bucks. I'm still testing this but for the 2 days this has been installed it's been flawless.
