The Ultimate Buick Regal Is Discontinued Discussion

True I'm just making the point that (in my eyes) an Outback IS NOT A WAGON without roughly a 2 - 3 in suspension drop. The reason that the Outback went from being slightly raised (1st gen is barely higher riding than the Legacy Wagon) to having 8 in of ground clearance was so Subaru could get it classified as a "truck" under the old CAFE rules.
It's semantics I guess but for comparison a Volvo V60 Cross Country has a reported 8.3" vs Outback 8.7" ground clearance - In my eyes I would still consider the V60 CC a wagon. The Outback styling straddles the line a bit to be something different than a wagon.

I don't - I only cheer on the "raised wagons" in SUV/CUV drag if they support the survival of an honest to god wagon. The raised Volvos at least support the existence of actual wagons. If and when the wagon counterpart is discontinued I will spit at their name like a medieval peasant warding off a demon.

Where did you buy yours from, can you please give me details?

Cargurus.com is your friend.

Figure out what you want(trim, options, color) and do a search. If you don't mind an adventure...you can search nationwide. Factor in travel cost or vehicle shipping...but no reason you have to buy local.

I've done this for last 3 cars i bought. I live in upstate NY. I bought the TourX in VA for $13k under msrp. Dealers close tk me couldn't/wouldn't come close to that deal. Same thing with my two previous cars I bought in PA and NJ(out of state).

Also...contact dealer and tell them you want an out the door price. No games, no BS. Let them know you're serious, and ready to purchase if the price is right. Tell them you are gathering quotes from other dealers. If they refuse to give a quote over email(or on the phone) tell them "no thanks" . I usually end with the line..."you know how to reach me...when you're ready to stop playong games and sell the car, let me know".

That's interesting comparison, I think I will stick to tourx in that case as it has enough power and I love driving wagons compared to SUV.

The initial reviews of the "new" Outback have not been very good..even with the the turbo engine. Even with the turbo, the car "feels" slow to most reviewers. The cvt is one of the better cvts..but still very meh. The whole driving experience with the outback is meh(even the turbo).

Unless you really need the off road ability...the buick is just simply a better more comfortable ride. I have driven several times in snow and have no complaints about the awd system. The ground clearance could be an issue if you deal with deep snow often...but its rare for me...even in upstate NY.

IMO...don't even think about the non-turbo Outback. Its so very, very slow. I would feel unsafe in it.

I owned a Forester and didn't feel the Subaru love. Great in snow, but otherwise no soul at all. Very boring...

Thank you that is helpful, especially I love cars with more comfortable rides.

The previous gen Outback was long term reviewed by TFL Car on YouTube and they compared it to the Detroit wagons of the 70s in both ride quality and panel gaps. No wonder Middle America eats them up like white bread.

I don't think its a bad idea to test drive an Outback...see if you like it. Each person is entitled to their pwn opinion. I just didn't feel any excitement when i compared the Outback to the TourX. It feels slow and tall to me, more like suv dynamics vs car dynamics.

The tourX feels like the German sport wagon it is.

To note is also Subaru's are also have quality problems as of late. I don't think the subies are any better quality/reliability wise and perhaps a step below the tourX

Bingo. My 2006 forester was not kind to me in the reliability dept. There is a percieved quality with subaru, but if you dig deeper theres some serious problems with head gaskets which i'm not sure subaru has ever solved completely.

You see a lot of higher mileage subarus..but they start to get real expensive post 100k miles

Head gaskets I've heard got solved with a new engine design a few years ago, but the CVT is the new problem. My '16 Forester had to get one at 37K because of a bad bearing. Couldn't just put a new bearing in...they had to replace the ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, which would have been $7,000 if not under warranty.

And the Impreza I had after that is now part of a class-action suit...for the stereo.

The reason I bought something family suited like the TourX was because my wife's Terrain (IMHO) is unsuited for long distance highway travel, not enough cargo capacity and a little too noisy inside. However I'm sure by the time I replace my Buick my wife will have a Yukon or something like that and I won't have to worry about my vehicle being good for anything but my commute.

The rumor is that there is going to be another generation of BRZ and FR-S with Subaru's new turbo flat 4 (with an insane torque curve roughly a 3,000 rpm plateau of peak torque in the Legacy/Outback). If the BRZ/FRS is avaible with a factory turbo 4 and a manual trans, I might be in love.

Chevy killed the pontiac brand in the united states, but you can still get Holden Commadores.....I'll just have to start buying Opel OPC parts for my Regal! Lol!
Well, looks like GM announced that Holden is now toast too. The brand will be eliminated by 2021. So one less Opel variant in the Commodore.

At one time Holden built some strong unique cars. I had hope a Holden Ute variant would make it to the US back in the day.

I've heard quite a few similar stories about Subaru

I have been drooling over the Left-Hand Utes website (they're in Colorado). They convert SS's and G8's into utes (and a few wagons). One day, when I have $50K to blow, I might try to get one.

We can hope a group of Hillbillies start turning TourX into pick-ups (ala El Caminos). That would make the undefiled TourX even more rare ! A Sportback UTE would be cute though.

Subaru ended up extending CVT warranty to 100k miles for free. When I had mr ‘17 I received a letter in mail about it. I had my XT for about 65k miles. My only Mechanical issue was 4 broken windshields and no availability for OEM ones. Common issue as They are very tender. I just never loved the Forester...bad seats and no soul.

Speaking of Holden, may you RIP.
I always liked the Chevy SS, tried to buy one when GM was offering 20% off MSRP, but no dealer in New England who actually had them on the lot would deal.
So just give us all some cheer.

A Redeye 800HP with e-motor assist on the front wheels, say another 150KW, would hold a lot of bragging rights.
Yup ,1000hp AWD wagon would be just about right. Sort of like a nuclear weapon, sounds good, can’t really use it.
I always will be a MOPAR man at heart.

If I had a a spare $150K, I'd buy her back.
