Trifecta Performance Tune

Q: (Directed at vince or royhobbs or whomever can answer)

What kind of mpg can I expect with the tune? ON e85? on 93?

I'm in SE Mich and am considering getting the tune but the whole reason I got the car was mpg & fun factor. I'm logging 3000 miles/month and avg 27-28 overall on 87, all stock

I have also asked this question, have to heard! I bought my car for the same reasons... I'm driving about 2500-2800 a month.

Premium is always "recommended" ...but not req'd
Not really. Premium is typically a manufacturer recommendation for engines with higher-compression and forced induction (turbo- and super-charged). Running premium where the manufacturer does NOT recommend premium most likely will not be of much benefit but is not the case for where it is recommended.

When premium IS recommended, engine management will adjust various ignition and fuel settings when sub-premium fuel is used. They do this to reduce the likelihood of knocking/premature detonation which can damage the engine. Adjusting the ignition and fuel settings often leads to a courser running engine and reduced power. Often, these issues can only be felt under acceleration, hot temperatures and/or other extreme temperatures. Sometimes the differences can be pretty subtle.

Personally, our Turbo came with a tank of regular and I was seriously disappointed with the NVH but was really improved after filling up with premium.

I understand with driving as much as you do, why you would consider running 87 and if you can live with and/or not notice a difference with running 87 - perfect for you 😉

PS: When I drove as much as you, I bought a new 2003 VW Jetta TDI - after chipping it, the fuel economy actually improved! I averaged approximately 42 MPG the entire ownership of the vehicle. If I ever had to drive over 100 miles per day, I would certainly buy another...

Here... just for GottWhat.

my response was on topic and not directed for "all" motor vehicles that run on petroleum. :headbang: is that better?

42mpg’s would be sweet for sure but I didn’t buy a 30k+ car for it to sit in my driveway 5 days a week. Personal preference I guess.

No doubt. I meant with the amount of driving you do, I would highly recommend test driving a new turbo diesel the next time you go new car shopping. Since GM is going to be offering a diesel Cruze, maybe a diesel Regal might be in the future?

I'm straight on diesel. My question still remains unanswered though... What mpg can I see on e85 or 93 both before and after the trifecta? I'm likely switching to e85 anyways as soon as a station near me starts carrying it.

I did drive a VW CC... I liked it but they do not move much on the price.
a diesel regal would be sick!

Mileage will be the same with or without the tune (with the tune it might even be slighly better)

Pure city driving I get about 15mpg with e85 and I was getting around 18 with 93 Premium. I'm not one of those guys who thinks it's cool to see how high he can gets his mpg, I hit the gas off the line and I tend to speed. So your milage may vary

Wow at that rate I might as well go back to a truck! Anyone else have mpg numbers?

Royhobbs was definitely giving you worst case senecio. I'm 90% highway averaging 28 on 93 and 24ish on E85. Everyone's driving habits are different so you will not get the perfect answer here.

Like I said I drive ALL city and I would rather have the performance gain of e85 over premium. I could care less what my milage is as long as the car is fun to drive!

WOW... thanks for that.
just because we go thru a shit ton of gas and we're a little concerned about mpg's!

I wasn't talking about you or anyone else on this forum. I meant the Prius types and their "hyper-miling".

Coming from an suv averaging 20, it's an important factor... Looks like 93 may be the way to go since e85 isn't much cheaper than regular right now.

About 30 cents difference for me last night. Hopefully all of the gas will will be out of the system by the time the tune arrives so that I'm just burning E85. Vince is shipping the cables this week from what I understand.

I just tried my first tank of E85. Well 3/4 of E85 AND 1/4 93. It was 52 cents cheaper here then 93 and my 0-60 dropped to 6.7s from 7.2 and I forgot to put it in sport mode. We'll see how the MPG changes.
