You mean like the ones he had to change out in this thread? 😉
lolz
It's all part of the system, you would have basically no infotainment display at all in the cluster without changing everything else out or be able to access any menus without the steering wheel which kills the rest of the radio controls without swapping the rest out 😉
Yep. If you do the cluster, you will have no way to interact with it without the second generation Global A steering wheel.
With that steering wheel you loose cruise control without modifying the resistor values of the buttons on the wheel or changing to a 14/15 BCM.
If you change the cluster, you will have no way to use pretty much any of the features without swapping to the second generation Global A infotainment. I.E. The Bosch HMI MOST setup vs The Panasonic setup.
Once you change the infotainment modules, you'll have to change the front panel controls for it.
Changing the front panel controls means changing out the HVAC Dash Control module too (as the 14-15 has buttons the 11-13 dont and the module in the car doesnt know what the hell the button panel is trying to tell it to do) *insert Super Troopers "I'm already pulled over! I can't pull over any farther" haha*
When you change out the HVAC module, changes in the GMLAN frames will prevent you from using the rear defog. Why? Well because the signal from the BCM to the HVAC module (which rides over GMLAN LS) is a different message than it is expecting, so you're forced to use a bus pirate or arduino to fake the new message or change the BCM...
All of this is just some of the lovely shit I have come across while doing this swap. And that doesnt even cover any incidentals like oh, now you have a heated steering wheel, well now you need a new clock spring...or now you need a new airbag cover...or now you need a new start button...or now you have no lock/unlock inside the car because the button just isnt there anymore...
Like Chris and I said....if you arent in it for the long haul I wouldnt bother.
