2014+ Digital Cluster Retrofit in a 2012 Regal GS!!

A few more install shots

Currently have full io6 retrofit with UVD cluster and 14+ heated steering wheel installed and working. Tying up more loose ends as time allows. I'll post more detail when I have the kinks worked out.

The base 2011-2013 Instrument cluster looks a lot like the Verano. I wonder what work would be involved in putting the updated part into the Verano, or if that is just a pipe dream.

They all use the same connector on the back of the cluster. All you need is the cluster and a wiring diagram. If you're interested in it I'll make you a plug and play harness so you don't have to rearrange/add pins to your factory connector.

Thank you for your patience; I won't rest until this is perfect and I *think* we've got it this time 🙂

True to his word, GTP got the cluster working perfectly! A huge thank you for all the hard work!

Would there be any other modules to add? Would I have to change the steering wheel? That is definitely intriguing.

You mean like the ones he had to change out in this thread? 😉

🙂 Wasn't sure what was for the Radio update and what was for the Instrument Panel update. 🙂

It's all part of the system, you would have basically no infotainment display at all in the cluster without changing everything else out or be able to access any menus without the steering wheel which kills the rest of the radio controls without swapping the rest out 😉

Yep. If you do the cluster, you will have no way to interact with it without the second generation Global A steering wheel.
With that steering wheel you loose cruise control without modifying the resistor values of the buttons on the wheel or changing to a 14/15 BCM.
If you change the cluster, you will have no way to use pretty much any of the features without swapping to the second generation Global A infotainment. I.E. The Bosch HMI MOST setup vs The Panasonic setup.
Once you change the infotainment modules, you'll have to change the front panel controls for it.
Changing the front panel controls means changing out the HVAC Dash Control module too (as the 14-15 has buttons the 11-13 dont and the module in the car doesnt know what the hell the button panel is trying to tell it to do) *insert Super Troopers "I'm already pulled over! I can't pull over any farther" haha*
When you change out the HVAC module, changes in the GMLAN frames will prevent you from using the rear defog. Why? Well because the signal from the BCM to the HVAC module (which rides over GMLAN LS) is a different message than it is expecting, so you're forced to use a bus pirate or arduino to fake the new message or change the BCM...

All of this is just some of the lovely shit I have come across while doing this swap. And that doesnt even cover any incidentals like oh, now you have a heated steering wheel, well now you need a new clock spring...or now you need a new airbag cover...or now you need a new start button...or now you have no lock/unlock inside the car because the button just isnt there anymore...

Like Chris and I said....if you arent in it for the long haul I wouldnt bother.

Sounds like a new car is a better choice. . . time to hit up the car ads 🙂

Personal preference really. I like to solve the puzzle. Not only that but I've learned so much about car electrical systems and data communications. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Yeah, I like that, continuous improvement etc. The idea of making a truly unique Verano was pretty cool too. I guess sometimes the end isn't really worth what it takes to get there.

Im thinking just cluster and steering wheel. Im interested in knowing cost of everything also. I love the new regal dash layout.

Cluster - 150-300
Wheel - 300-350 (for the GS wheel)
HMI NG2.0 w/Nav (non carplay) - 350-500
HMI NG2.5 wNav (with Carplay) - 450-800
Disc Drive - 100
HVAC Controller - 100
Radio Module - 80-150
Display w/vents/trim - 120
HVAC Controls - 80
Start Button - 30
BCM - 100
Misc Molex Stac64 Connectors and pins - 300

Rough estimates but should give you a ballpark

Thanks. I might consider this

You said you'd do it again in a heartbeat. How much would it cost to get it that heart pumping again???

See post above...lol

You just need to buy the cluster, have it programmed and swap it in. The key is finding someone to program it. The dealer won't be able to do it. Very easy swap. It took me 30 minutes to remove the old cluster and install the GS cluster.

I might be interested in this is needed thanks!

Ok so I just bought the 14 cluster used for $46 bucks shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/252352316035 I have a 13' GS. So exactly what will I need, as I was a lil confused with following everything, I just was the cluster and if I need to get the steering wheel I will do that also. I believe I will have to contact Mr. White "GTPprix" and have him program it. Is this all correct? It will install the same as the stock 13' I got now? Plugs etc? Maybe I should have asked all this again before I bought the 14' to install in my 13' but I'm already there now... so please walk me thru what is required, Thanks!!!!!!
