USB Port stopped working

Note that, the car only reads mp3, if your audios are m4a or a different extension it won't read them. I just rename the files from *.m4a to *.mp3 and they work fine
The dealer said the USB port was corroded and replaced it. It then played my .m4a files (native iTunes).

My USB stops working sometimes, in my case I pull it out and put it back in and it starts working. Probably happens once in a few months...
My 2019 Encore does this all the time.

Hi Buick Customer care

I'm having the same issue in my 2018 Buick Encore as well.
It's very frustrating that the port stops working. It's going to cause people to get into accidents because we are constantly fidgeting with it to work while driving.
It's super frustrating that the port stops working while using the gps as well.

What's the resolution. Will you be fixing this ongoing issue?

I agree. I have to fidget with it all the time while trying to use the GPS. I'm lost without GPS because I travel a lot to places I've never been. This is really frustrating. I need it fixed ASAP. Mine is a 2019 Encore.

Hi. I have struggled with my apple carplay not recognizing my device including providing power through the port. I took it to the dealer who wrongly suggested I needed a new interface in the console. I brought it back after that didn’t work and they fixed it saying nothing was wrong. It went out again after a couple of months and I was just living with it until a friend suggested I remove the battery cable and leave it disconnected for a while. I did this and left it off for 30minutes. When I reconnected it and tried the port it worked perfectly and has ever since.

I know there are some software updates that need to be applied and there are ways to check that but if it is up to date and you run into the car not recognizing any phone and changing the cable doesn’t work, try the battery option. It is a hard reset and worked for me.

For anyone tracking this, the USB went dead again. Tried all the previous things and nothing worked. I am going to take it to the dealer again and see what can be done. I’ll update after.

I've had my mom's 2013 LaCrosse since Thanksgiving. It needed to have a few things done to it, and I'll take it back to at Christmas and fetch back my own 2013 LaCrosse. Since she doesn't have Sirius XM activated on her car, I've been looking for alternative sources of tunes. I found I can play Sirius XM from my phone via BlueTooth, but that puts a dent in my data, so I do it sparingly. I tried plugging my old iPod into the USB port but couldn't get it to play, which is odd, since I recall using it once or twice in my own LaCrosse when I first got it. While the car does have a CD player, Changing discs is a little awkward going down the road. How did I manage that with cassettes back in the day? Figuring I had nothing to lose, I loaded up a USB flash drive with mp3 files, and after plugging it in and unplugging it a coule of times, the car finally recognized it, and I'm now I have a convenient source of music for the next couple of weeks. I've had to unplug and re-plug it a couple of times, and the car has an inconsistent tendency to revert to FM when I first start it up. Sometimes it stays with the USB drive and sometimes it doesn't. A little annoying, but I can live with it for a couple more weeks.

Has anyone tried spraying contact cleaner on port and plug?

nevermind, #29 in the fuse panel next to the steering wheel, behind the junk drawer

Pulled the fuse, put it back in and powered everything up, USB ports still dead. Disconnected the battery for about 15 minutes, stepped on the brake pedal to drain residual voltage, reconnected and powered it all up, USB still dead.

Going to change out the USB/Aux module, any other ideas to get the USB ports working again?

Thanks!

My 2013 Enclave USB is not working either. Just stopped one day and no answers to that in the manual. Taking it in this week to see if the dealership will be able to diagnose the issue.
Did you ever receive an answer from the dealer?

Bought a new AC Delco brand USB/Aux module, made sure both connectors were installed correctly and it's working again. 👍

I have a 2017 Buick Encore, so far I have tried disconnecting the negative battery cable and waiting 30 mins, installing a new 10Amp fuse in #29, and buying and replacing the USB hub from a dealership with absolutely no luck. I have verified that the wire connector does have voltage and used 2 different phones and 2 different cords to connect. Ports won’t charge and no data sync. I’m a bit of a loss. Any new ideas or answers?
