I simply find it amusing that the people in China are only so hostile towards Japanese.
Looking into history, China was invaded by Germany (Siege of Tsingtao - Wikipedia), Italy (Italian concession of Tientsin - Wikipedia), France (Sino-French War - Wikipedia), United Kingdom (Opium Wars - Wikipedia). Just a few examples.
The Brits were especially the worse ones with the opium drugs.
Of course, the Japanese invasion was the most recent. Is that the only reason for why being so hostile to them? (Please note, not trying to be political, but trying to understand the culture from someone who is originally from that side of the story.)

39 here, but I've always had more sporty wagons and project cars. Volvo 740 turbos, highly modded 240s, had an 850 turbo wagon for 7 years that I did suspension stuff to, the last one before the Buick was a 95 e320 Benz wagon with a C36 amg engine swap and a 5 speed manual and sportline suspension parts. Kind of a unicorn and a sweet sweet car. But I finally got tired of driving (maintaining) 25+ year old cars, espically Euro cars. ...this is the first new car I've ever had, and first new car I actually liked enough to even consider buying. Does everything I want well enough and it fits the bill, especially with the first little one one the way. A daily I don't have to mess with anymore. I mean really it's German when it comes down to it, prolly why I liked it so much.

As one of the old guys in the room, I’m impressed to see the larger group of young people that have bought wagons and sport backs. I am trading in my ‘13 GS on Monday for a CPO ‘18 GS loaded with 9200 one owner miles. Looking forward to enjoying the V6!

Replaces a 10 yo VW Komfort Wagon. We are both 75, out of the demographic by a titch. Just don't care to be in the usual line of white SUVs at the stoplight.

Replaced an '05 Magnum, I bought new, with a 2019 TourX Essence when I was 74.

I might now be in my 60's, but I don't feel any differently from when I was a teenager. And when I was a teenager in the 1960s, I sure didn't consider the 1966- 1968 Wildcat to be an 'old man's car'.

66/68 here. We traded a 2008 Subaru Outback for a 2019 TourX last month. The Subaru was getting on up there in miles and age and we wanted a real station wagon with AWD, not a crossover or SUV. New Outbacks are no longer station wagons in my opinion. The only other options were Volvo and Mercedes. We really like the length of the cargo area with the back seats folded.
We would have considered a sportback if any had been around. My wife has had hatchbacks or wagons since 1977, I have had hatchbacks or wagons since 79.
Current vehicles are the TourX, 2016 Mazda3 hatchback with manual (very interested in the 2021 AWD Turbo Mazda3) and 2008 Subaru Outback (we had 2, bought them used a month apart after we saw and drove a 2010 Outback.)

I'll be 62 in December and my very first car was a Buick Skylark. My Mom had a 1956 Roadmaster wagon that I spent much time in the way back seat and I loved it. Always wanted a GS 455, a boat tail Riviera or a Grand National but they never made it to my driveway. The 69 Skylark Sportwagon was also a big fave with that lovely Vista Cruiser roof. In 2014 I bought a Magnum R/T and loved it but soon found its mpg claims to be a total sham. I often make the trek to NYC to attend the Auto Show and the first time I laid eyes on a TourX I was smitten. They were out of my budget but it was on my radar for sure. Now that I'm about to hand off my Escape to my wife, I have my sights hunting for parking one in my driveway. I do wish GM had offered the GS version in wagon body but thats okay. Point being I dont think you have to be a senior citizen to love a Buick or a wagon.

I will be 28 in December. It has been a month and a half, and I traded my '16 Kia Soul for an '18 TourX Essence. Drove three hours to get it. One owner, Darkmoon Blue Metallic, 15K on the odometer. I initially wanted a Chrysler 300S, considering I used to drive one for a chauffeur company. This car was not even on my radar. However, I saw a YouTube video about it from this channel called Regular Car Reviews. By the end of the video, I had to have one. On top of the beauty of it, & the fact that I've only seen 5 TourX's in all of Pennsylvania, I've always loved wagons. If I ever hit the PowerBall, I would buy an E63 S wagon or an Audi RS6 Avant. Short of that happening, I will be very happy with this wagon for a very, very long time. To agree with Ghosthawk above me, you indeed DO NOT have to be a senior citizen to love Buicks or wagons! 😎😍😆

Good for you.

Respectfully that was one review though where Mr. Regular was full of $hit. I'm amazed it made you want one.

Though I'm also sure that the TourX is roughly twice as fast as your Soul.

You would be correct!

I went from being able to carry either people or stuff at a reasonable speed, to carrying people & stuff at the right speed with a turbo & Android Auto. Now, regardless of if I decide to get that Trifecta tune to get rid of that 1-second lag, and maybe a nice window tint, it still would be a perfect car for me.

Also, half of their videos are of them being full of shit, but that's my humor level 🤣🤣🤣 The things that they did hit on just wooed me. It might not be a big-ass wagon from back in the day, but it's sexy. It rides great! Like a bullet when you gun it, like a cloud when you cruise. And, if you get one new or used, you get a better deal on it as opposed to a sexy-but-expensive Volvo or an ugly-but-functional Subaru.

That's very interesting, thank
Well for the tri-shield logo of buick doesn't really have any special meaning here, (while amusingly chevy's logo give chinese people a negative feeling). Chinese people love buicks because the brand itself represents a symbol of status and luxury, and it is an American car. Chinese people in general love german and american cars because they have good engine and large space, they hate underpowered cars and compacts(where japanese car do well), and for history reasons they boycott japanese car brands because they remind them of the WW2. And you don't want to risk anything on a car which is not politically correct if you are person with status in China. (A lot of japanese cars get smashed, set on fire, and vandalized in 2000s when people go on streets to protest against japan when japanese politician said they will not apologise for their doings in WW2.)

Buick is also THE car of the first president of modern China, Sun Yat-Sen, drove. And the well respected first premier of communist China(the China now), Zhou En Lai also have a Buick Century.

The Buick that the first premier of China drives/owns.

It has been a well-known symbol of status and power since 1920s, also considered as a car of and for the pioneers of modern China. In 1930 one out of every six cars on Shanghai's roads was a Buick.
When in 1990s China opens up its market, Foreign entry into the Chinese auto market was still severely restricted. GM emphasize their history of their cars and the relation with Sun Yat-Sen, Chinese modernization and revolution, saying that they are not new comers, but returning back to china, so they got exclusive access first in the new market, and outruns any other foreign car brands in China.

Also, when china opens up its economy, people are getting rich, and they want a car that represents their status and also maintaining a humble image (not fancy cars like Porsche and Maserati that spoiled rich kid drives). And Benz, Audi and BMWs are super expensive because they are imported back then so owning one will give people hint of questionable income/ corruption. VW is also fine, but they are widely used in early taxis in china, so the business guys don't want them. Toyotas/Lexus/Hondas/Nissan has the image problem related to the war history, so people don't want to risk their image to be "supportive", and they always left chinese consumers out if there is a recall worldwide, so their image is really bad there. But if you don't mind you can get one, they are cheap.

Buick has multiple lines which are reasonably priced which suits the middle-class and elites needs, so it gained this "humble" and luxury image.

What make this story more interesting is that the first president of China in 1920s admired Ford back then, and has personally wrote Henry Ford a letter to invite him visit china and if possible to build cars in China, but they turned down the offer, an assistant in Mr. Ford’s office sent Dr. Sun a terse rejection, acknowledging receipt of the invitation but saying, “We desire to advise, however, that Mr. Ford has made no plans for visiting China in the very near future.”. And now Ford is struggling to get a slice of the chinese market, you can hardly find any fords on the streets in China. Nor their brand has any historical meaning or any symbol here. They have lost the chance.
you for sharing your knowlege and perspective!

34 years old. I bought a 2018 Regal TourX Preferred in December. Replaces a 2016 ATS 2.0T 6MT that I wrecked. I miss that car, but I am liking the TourX. It is my second Buick. I used to have a 1989 Riviera.

I have always been a GM guy. I’ve had 2 Firebirds and a Camaro. I don’t like the new Camaro’s because I am not into retro styling. I also ride a late model Kawasaki Ninja 1400 so at 64 years my love for hot vehicles hasn’t slowed down. I bought a GS for it’s original design, progressive technology, performance and refinement. I want performance and handling but am not into a rough and ready sports thing.

I'd be a fan of new Camaro styled to look like the Gen 2 car instead of the same old Gen 1 warmed over bull$hit we've been getting for the past decade plus.

Gen 2 would be a sweet inspiration especially since nothing has bumpers anymore anyway...

I am more partial to the generation 4 Camaro and Firebird because of the hatchback.

It’s interesting how life dictates car choice - want vs. need.
I’m addicted to cars. Had seven at one point. I was a die hard Corvette guy my whole life but only owned one for a hot second. My wife-to-be cried when I brought home an 89 roadster instead of an engagement ring. Nuff said right there, lol. Car went back.
Then, I discovered off roading and have been driving a highly modified ZJ for 25 years. They’ll have to pry that Jeep out of my cold dead hands.
At the same time, as a professional entertainer, I’ve always owned a van because sound equipment just doesn’t fit in Grand Cherokee and ended up with a Dodge Caravan for my music business.

So one day a few years ago, I see this wild looking, stretched out, low slung, sexy station wagon. (Yes, I used sexy in the same sentence as station wagon! Lol)
Never followed up though, until...
A few weeks ago. My wife says she’d like me to buy a new car BEFORE I retire from my day job this year, not after. So I start Googling.

I remember this wagon I saw and started poking around the web, located and drove one - although not the one I would buy.
I was hooked - bad. Two weeks later, they unloaded a tri coat white Essence off the trailer and I couldn’t be happier! And my cello fits without having to give up the back seats!
I had REALLY wanted the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, but 50,000 dollars is absolutely insane. Especially when I actually off road with mine - and like true belly button cars, everyone else has one so I went Tourx.
The Tourx is in an exclusive club and I thoroughly love that everybody asks me what it is everywhere I go. Could not be happier.
