Gear shift shortener

Awesome! Thanks!

horrible experience last night!... while driving on the taconic state parkway(horrible death road) my clutch gets stuck, i mean i am unable to move shifter at all!! thing would not budge a 1/4 of an inch! and it got stuck in-between shifts! totally dead in the water and there wasn't even a shoulder to pull over onto, so after a few hours in the dark, and shitting my pants from all the cars swerving at 70mph around me (couple of really close calls) i figure out the problem....

M-tech provides a small C-clamp with the kit for a reason, our stock retaining clip even though stronger and more robust, is too tight of a squeeze for that small gap.... most of you guys will prob never have this problem, heck I was driving around for last 6 months without a problem, just be aware that if you use the stock retaining clip with the M-Tech shifter that there is a small chance this could happen to you.

Greetings all--

Stumbled upon this page doing a search for Regal short-shifters. I test drove a used '14 GS recently & loved it--all except for the huge, tall throws of the shifter. Having driven a WRX (with STS) in the past, I found the GS stock-shifter almost untenable. Nearly walked away completely, but this thread has renewed my interest in these cars.
A lot of very useful information in this thread--I really appreciate everyone taking the time to post their experiences.

Allow me to echo that Jmbneaf's blog tutorial/photos were stellar & very useful.

As Nizerim's photos of the "new" M Tech shifter show, it looks as if sometime in mid-2013 the F40 transmission was updated, so for late 2013 (+/-), all 2014 & all 2015 models, the new M Tech shifter applies. One cool thing I noticed was--no DUSTCOVER! Just the top bolt. That right there ought to save the lives of several needle-nose pliers the world over. :-D

I scoured Youtube for a photo tutorial like Jmbneaf's for the updated shifter, & this is what I came up with. It's not nearly as inclusive, the photos are often not rotated properly, & the music is pretty bad (warning--hit "mute"). But I did get some useful views of the new M-Tech install from it by pausing the video & turning my screen sideways. Lol

I have not yet pulled the trigger on the car purchase, but if/when I do, does anyone know if BNR is stocking the updated shifter (like Nizerim's)? I went to their website & only saw the shifter for the 2011/2012 models (like Jmbneaf's). Nizerim, how have you liked yours so far?

Again, thanks for the great thread. Very useful for someone who's interested in the car whose shifter/transmission would have otherwise been a deal-breaker.

Wungun--cool looking shifter. I wonder if that plus the under-hood linkage would tighten the throws up even MORE. :headbang:

What year is your GS? I'm wondering if your lever would work on all GS model years....

Well, it was built for a Saab 9-3. Lol
My GS is a '12

BUMP 🙂

i am about to look into short shifter options for my 2014 GS, just brought home today. by the reviews in this great thread, it sounds like the M-tech product via BNR at only $170 is the way to go

These peeps at Bad News do NOT answer emails and they don't post a phone number online. Are they still in business?

Just as a super late necro, I just did this in my 12 GS. Took a long time to get the old linkage out as it was in there a lot longer. Just keep yanking on it and it'll eventually come off. Used to PB blaster as well on it. Shifting is amaaazing. Can shift not only quicker, but smoother as well. Great upgrade. (was on BNR's waitlist for the part for a year, ordered it immediately, got here two days later.)

Bump, is everyone still happy with the M-tech product via BNR? I have 2014 Regal GS with Trifecta Tune. TIA.
Yes. If I wanted to row a boat, I'd go on an inflatable with paddles. Arguably ness. for stock F40.
