Installation of LED/Turn Signal Fog Lamps for GS

I've finally been able to set up an online photo account and post some pics. I love the look these DRLs brings. It makes the GS look so cool at night.

OK, well maybe not...Picture does not show.

Ok, that works. Next time I'll have to reduce the resolution prior to uploading.

Finally got around to removing the LED strips from the custom install and install the actual kit from China.
Unfortunately it's still winter and the car is dirty as fawk.

any idea if these will fit a 2014? I just picked up my ride last month....all the kits I have found say 2011-2013

A bit off-topic here, but after looking at most of the photos on here, have any of you Regal owners switched out the amber signal bulbs with a chrome coated one? It'll get rid of the amber/orange reflection in the signal area when the turn signal is off, but still retain the amber light when you signal.

Hopefully you guys don't mind a LaCrosse owner checking in here. 😛

@TprGTO did you remove the fake black vents before installing your lights or are they just mounted on top of them somehow?

you have to remove the black plastic vent to install them . on a side not I have a brand new set of these lights in the box for $100 bucks + shipping pm me if your interested .

I was looking to go the DIY route, just not sure yet. I don't really have the tools as of yet (living in barracks on a Navy base, and transfer out in a month or so). I do like the look of these LEDs though.

Don't they have an auto hobby shop on the base? You can barrow or rent any of the tools you need

Actually, I think we do. I don't know about the tools thing, but there is a shop somewhere around back by a closed gate iirc

Well written, but wondering why GM doesn't put driving lites above the air intakes, where they have the ugly
top half piece of plastic. Logical location to me? The saber tooth design is ok, just a Grand Sport without
driving lights doesn't make sense to me..

Has anyone had LED's stop working. 4 lights in the center of my LED DRL set stopped working. Rest are all on fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Jim

For those with LED DRLs. I changed the amber turn signal bulb to LED as well. It looks much better with the DRLs than the stock bulb. You'll need resisters as well or the signal light thinks a bulb is out and blinks quickly.

always wondered the bulb number

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful with part numbers and photos of the signal light LED install. I almost burned down my 72 Skylark as a kid and haven't played with wiring since. I had a mechanic friend buy the LEDs and load resisters from eBay and install them.

Swapping bulbs is easy. If the LED bulb doesn't work it might be installed backwards. Spin the bulb around and it should work. The load resisters should be installed by someone who knows wiring. I don't want to be responsible for someone burning their Buick to the ground. 😛

I had my headlights off the other day. The exact bulb #'s (<-that's not a hashtag) are on the back of the headlight housing/assembly next to the plug to access each bulb. On my '12 GS that bulb is 3457 NAK.

Another cool/shitty thing about this headlight is that all of the power/signal wires plug into the headlight with one connector next to the HID access hole. The wires that power and control the D1S HID low/high beam run directly to the ballast (the ballast plugs directly into the bottom of the headlight assembly and is held in with 2 screws) and back into the headlight assembly to the D1S bulb..... The L.E.D. DRL wires and the turn signal wires go directly to this......

This control box, mounted to a small 3"-4" circuit board is in each headlight,(under the L.E.D's) on the bottom/outer edge, hidden by the bumper and fender.

I can't see how many or what color wires go into the back of that control box. I do know that 5 black wires come out of it..... 2 wires go to the 3457 NAK bulb and 3 wires go up to the L.E.D's.

Next step is to get a used Headlight so I can put it in the oven and open it up.😉

The price of the newer style 'solid strip' LED DRLs came down to $66 on e-bay, so I decided to try them out.

Search for 'buick regal led drl' and you'll find them.

My $0.02: As has been said before, these are clearly 'china quality' parts. Those little black control boxes are a total joke. They are unsealed plastic enclosures over a completely non-coated circuit board. I don't see any way these things would survive under a hood of a car unless you never take the car out of the garage... or wash it.

You only really need those boxes if you want the turn signal feature anyways, which I didn't, so no real issue. Threw mine in the garbage where they belong. If I did want the turn signal option, I would have sealed those boxes up with a bunch of RTV to give them a hope in hell.

The actual DRLs aren't much better in terms of quality. The sealing of the two main pieces looked suspect to me, so I sealed all the way around with clear silicone before installing them. Easy to do and might just make them survive.

I didn't want mine on any time the key is on (accessory power). I only really wanted them on when the side marker lights are on (lights in the 'parking light' mode, or the HIDs are on). So I wired the white wires to the side marker light wires going to the front headlights. On a 2012 Regal GS, this is a violet with gray stripe wire on the passenger side, and gray with a brown stripe on the driver's side.

Those marker lamps are LEDs in the front, but that same circuit powers regular bulbs in the back, so I figure that circuit can handle the 130mA or so each LED DRL was adding to the circuit.

I think they look pretty cool. Just have to see if they survive, which does seem questionable based on the overall quality of the parts.

Just to chime in

I've had both LED drls , solid strip and individual bulb , and I'm a clean freak , I wash ny car twice a week even in winter even if it snows , ive had both for a while now I think I was the first to buy both.. Maybe secon on the first pair.. Whatever
They are really good in terms of dependability , I have had zero issues and honestly I don't plan on having an issue
