Are you pressing the NAV button, or is it flashing the message on its own?

I touch the "NAV" icon on the screen to enter the system. You can see from my image that the maps are already up on the screen.
Almost immediately the message pops up (it doesn't flash) but hangs there about five seconds then vanishes until the next time I start up the system again. It only appears once when the system starts up.

I am not sure why you are pressing the NAV button if the navigation system isn't working. Maybe I am missing something.

Go into Android Auto and use their navigation system.

It could be that in the Nav settings the Onstar associated functions are still enabled. Since Onstar is no longer active it may be a system monitor option that is to inform that it's not operating, try turning off those funtions and see if that works. Best guess.

Even though, this sounds like it could be intentional coding as well if Buick is shady.

The NAV screen is a distraction to the drivers, same an a cell phone! It only takes 2/10ths of a second with eyes off the road to cause an accident. Watch the road in front of you and what you are doing, not the NAV screen. No wonder my insurance has gone up 30% in the last few years! I have to pay for distracted drivers accidents!

I finally got a reply from Buick Onstar. The built-in navigation does not have the live traffic function to allow you to divert to a different route.
This helps when you have a co-pilot in the passenger seat not distracting the driver. The live traffic feature is a paid service ($8.33)/ month.
When you subscribe to this service the message of "nav serv. termination" vanishes forever.

The salesman who sold me the car, as well as the service manager, were not able to identify address the question...not surprising.

The OnStar website only showed the "connected navigation" service as being available on the $39.99 or $59.99 plan.

Are you saying that there is a stand-alone option that just updates traffic?

If so, I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed that that information is not published anywhere.

You might want to call OnStar and ask which minimum service contract you need in order to be able to purchase connected navigation. It also might only be available for 3.0 systems provided in 2019 model years.

My car was built 07/18, it has the 3.0 system.

I spoke with an "infotainment specialist" who confirmed that I had the 3.0 system, and also told me that I had to speak to OnStar sales a second time because the first OnStar person I talked to must have been confused on which system I have.

The specialist claimed to only know tech stuff and nothing about à la carte pricing, plans or packages.

Can you point to anything online showing $8.33/month for this "live traffic" option from OnStar?

I understood the service to be an "add on" which means one has to subscribe to one of their programs that does not have the connected nav function. I have not seen a price list of add ons either.

Try the following: call OnStar and ask what the in-car 4G LTE service costs then see if you can add on the connected navigation. My guess is you need this 4G LTE subscription in order to add just one other option. I read this on one of GM's web pages:
• Connected Navigation is available wherever your vehicle has an active 4G LTE data connection. Find a coverage map here.
My vehicle does have the 4G LTE subscription...maybe it is the key.

You don't need 4G LTE to subscribe to the Onstar turn by turn navigation. You do need SiriusXM traffic service to get traffic information on the built-in nav system.

Or you can just press Android Auto and use Google Maps instead.
