Sound System Issue

Your update was probably for the radio and not the amp. What does your invoice say?
Just to let everyone here know, according to my dealer, GM tech line says I'm the only customer to report this issue, and they dont have a fix. So GM has basically called everyone on this thread either fake, or a liar. My car is headed for arbitration with GM in the next few weeks, if anyone wants to send me their name and address in a private message, I will show them in my hearing that they are the liars, not us. I will keep everyone posted. Lets prove to them that this problem is real and widespread, if you agree, post on this thread and show them you are real. Thanks

So after this post, I get two people who are saying they have the same issue! You've got to be kidding me! C,mon people, I know there are more than two of us
out there!

Just picked up a 2011 Buick Regal CXL T04 (Russelsheim), have the same issue (auto volume set to off while I was still parked in the lot). I only notice it when the volume is turned up a decent amount though and only on certain songs. It definitely is annoying but I usually have my hand near the volume controls on the stearing wheel so I just lower it a notch if it gets too loud or increase it if it's to soft.

I have been lurking the forums before the purchase of the car so I haven't mentioned it to the dealer as it doesn't seem like anyone has gotten a real resolution to the problem.

I would also be willing to look into this. Please contact me with more information. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Given that no one will get maimed or killed with the volume problem, they're probably looking for more important things to fix. (unlike Toyota with their stuck throttle problem that they refused to acknowledge until enough people died. 🙄 )

And totally unacceptable in a 35k near luxury car, and for GM to not admit issue

I hear you man. The wife keeps telling me to turn the music down and I have to keep explaining to her I haven't touched the knob. This is the only radio I've had which compensates louder when there's little road noise and softer when it gets loud. 🙄

OK, I noticed this post is very old, however i found a technical service bulletin from GM pertaining to erratic audio issues, #08-08-44-028A is the bulletin #. i guess there is an issue with the audio controls on the steering wheel. Its new as april 11th 2012. Have your dealer check that if you have not found a resolution.

Do you have the information from the TSB itself?

thanks for the post - i tried out auto-volume last week... uh wow that is an epic fail.

i got in touch with my dealer about the TSB. it basically tells the dealer not to replace the radio, and to warn the customer that if your hands are on the steering wheel to be sure not to touch the volume controls.
we must all have very fat fingers and radios that intermittently don't display the volume level when you change it.

How is there still not a TSB or anything for this particular issue from GM when Legendaryjarl (an employee of GM) found the fix for it? I don't care if it costs GM money, we paid for a premium product and this is beyond ridiculous. Way to go GM, great customer service. I love the car but this should not be an issue to get fixed.

I've been watching this thread for some time since my original post several months back. I still have the very frustrating issue with my radio!! Does this seem to only be a 2011 issue? Mine was made in Russelsheim, if that matters. Not sure if I'll bother to bring this up to my dealer or not.

It's probably good to tell the dealer so at some point they may issue a TSB or something.

Hi Noel,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry to hear about your problem.

You have reached the website for the aftermarket car audio division. Unfortunately, I have no information regarding the original equipment audio system in the vehicle. These questions can be best answered by contacting the local vehicle dealership, as we are not able to support these products being that they are made by the OEM division.

On Your factory system:
The OEM division produces only the upgraded amplifier and speakers for your factory system. The source unit is produced by another company. To this end, your dealership will be your only avenue for obtaining information on this unit as we do not have any information on these products.

If your system requires service:
Should your factory installed audio system require service please contact your dealership. Any warranty service and/or the replacement of any factory installed components should be handled by your dealership.

Thanks & regards,

I got the same email from the "Customer Support" group at HK. Don't they realize it's THEIR Name stamped all over the car?!? WTF???

I took my car into Sewell Buick GMC for a tensioner noise after startup and told them all about the cRaZy Volume issue. I told them it was experienced at volumes over 20, all inputs, Speed Compensation Off, varies song to song, volume can increase as you slow to a stop. I suggested that it was the Amplifiers programming causing the issue, it Could be related to digital compression which varies Greatly in digital music formats. Some music on my iPod are loud at 30, some are not loud enough at 44 (I don't blame the radio for this) I even told the service manager that unless their tech was an audio guy, he would probably not find the problem. No problem found, of course, but I told them I wanted the issue reported, so ONE DAY GM would do something about it.

The HK system is probably the best sounding factory system I've ever heard, which is why this issue is so frustrating. Replacing the radio is a REALLY expensive option, when the dash kit costs $300, before the radio...😡
