Trifecta Install, Black Friday 2020

I got the cable today, pulled the ECM info, and emailed it to Trifecta. I hopefully will have the update in a day or two.

I got mine the next day. Worth the wait!

I installed the tune yesterday, and so far I have mixed feelings, but I've only done limited city as of now (<40 MPH). It seems to hold gears too long when accelerating at low throttle. There's no need to hold the gear till 3500-4000 RPM when I'm not pressing the gas pedal much. However, I'm going to take it for some longer non-city driving over the weekend to get a better feel.

I think someone else mentioned something like this a while back and I think they asked Trifecta to modify the trans tune a little.

I noticed this as well, but if you're light on the pedal then it'll shift earlier as intended. I initially thought it had become more of an on/off switch but the more I drive and pay attention to the pedal modulation, I've been able to get the car to shift 3k or earlier. I'm sure Trifecta can adjust the throttle input if it's still too sensitive/aggressive for you.

Remember gents that without cruise control activated (not engaged), the car is in sport mode. The default improved drive mode is with cruise activated. Its closer to stock but better. I find myself using that mode more than the more aggressive sport mode.

You can tell the throttle input adjustments if you toggle it while on throttle.

So I did the install today. It froze up about 5 or 6 times but it finally took. Once I started the car up, I had a service transmission warning pop up and the check engine light was on. Anybody else experience this? I think I’ll try doing the install again tomorrow to see if I can get it to take without the lights.

Ooff...that doesn't sound good.

Yeah try again. That sounds bad.

Interesting, I was assuming that the cruise activated mode was basically the stock logic without any improvements. If this still has some power improvements then it sounds like my solution is just using the cruise mode for my city commuting and sport mode for fun. Thanks!

Yes, this is what i figured out. If you read the Trifecta site you will see where they refer to this. ASS is disabled, and in general its just a better version over stock in my eyes with sport mode being for more spirited driving.

From their site:

Modify driving profiles based on the cruise control enable setting (vehicles equipped with cruise control only)

Standard Mode: Cruise Control ON (armed) = Vehicle responds to pedal input and shift logic similar to factory programming

TRIFECTA Sport Mode: Cruise Control OFF (disarmed) = Vehicle responds more aggressively to throttle input, shifts are optimized for performance

I just uploaded my info to the support thread....maybe I will get a chance to install it next weekend.

I received mine within 10 minutes and it was 1830 hrs.

So who's going to do 0-60 or 1/4 mile before/after times?
I'm not even remotely interested in the numbers. My butt dyno is happy and I just installed a K&N drop in today and am even more content.

Simple but effective.

Cool, so not you.

It just seems as though the question on time improvement has been asked many times, and at one point Trifecta even was going to do some tests. Then, no one can be bothered to carry it through.

I'd actually most be interested in passing speeds, and data showing pedal input vs acceleration - ie : stock vs tuned, hit the gas at 45 mph, how long till the car starts "pulling". That to me is where the Buick feels sluggish. Our minivan is slower, but more eager, so it gives the perception of "sportier" acceleration. I know Trifecta makes huge improvements in that, but I like numbers!

Pretty convinced this is my bday present to myself next spring anyway.

I think Trifecta backed off doing times because of heat soak. I believe they mentioned it is a weak point in the system. But with cold air coming this should be something someone can get some numbers on. I would but I don't know if I have anything that would be accurate enough.

Yes, this perplexes me too.

The fact that Trifecta didn't follow through with their commitment to post times speaks volumes to me.

And those with the upgraded cluster even have a timer built in to use. It couldn't be any easier. Can someone please toggle the cruise on and off and compare the times between NA and tune? [Edit: Correction - toggling cruise control does not return to stock mapping -see below]
