247,152 on a 97 buick lesabre, still running good

I have the LeSabres twin, a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville. Almost every part on the car is original, with 197,000 miles. The rear windows no longer work, but otherwise it runs and shifts great. I bought it, even with the high mileage, because myself and other family members have owned a number of these older 3800 cars and they have been excellent, one running perfect with over 300,000 on the clock, engine and trans never rebuilt, though I think he put new timing gears and chain on it at some point. Anyways, I love these cars!

69,000 on my '01 and some jackhole rear ended it and the idiots at the insurance company totaled it out over a smashed bumper cover and tail light assembly. I guess I never intended to sell it anyways so I guess doubling my money and buying the car back from insurance for $400 wasn't too shabby of a deal for me.

mine has 304,316 just got new main/rod bearings, runs like brand new

Just bought a 97, excellent shape ith 41k miles.
Rare find & good luck with it. Keep the maintenance up to date and watch the coolant level in the overflow reservoir. Low mileage does not mean that you will not have UIM problems, or LIM gasket leaks!

Wow, are these kind of cars the, new classics.....so to speak?

Fix it when broke and do not defer maintenance tasks, KEY!

Sincerely,
"Flat tax Mike"

The nylon OEM LIM gasket deteriorates over time, possibly made worse by running old DEXCOL. This was a common issue with GM V6 engines including the 3.1 and 3.8 from the '90s and early to mid '00 era. The result can be coolant leaking into the oil, possibly the other way around, and external coolant leaks. Often started to appear at the 7 year / 80K mile point but varies. The repair is a new gasket if you catch it early.

The Plenum (upper intake manifold) and gasket were nylon, and if not seated perfectly centered could fail over time due to heat from the EGR chimney that passes from the LIM into the plenum chamber. This can result in coolant leaking in to the intake. The repair is a new plenum with heat shield at the chimney opening plus a smaller chimney.

Can it wait?
Not once you get coolant where it does not belong in the engine.. Bearing failure and hydrolock are but a couple of the potential results if gone too long. It took a couple hundred miles on the '02 Chevy 3.1 from first noticing coolant loss to noticing significant coolant in the oil. The '04 Buick 3.8 I caught early before the leaking started, probably by a couple months at best.

My 2002 Buick LeSabre has almost 190,000 miles on it, and it still runs "like new." The only major repairs included the recent installation of a Jasper rebuilt transmission and replacement of front wheel bearing units. I am anal in changing the engine oil/filter every 3,000 miles at which time the tires are rotated. I understand that engines eventually require rebuilding -- rings and bearings do not last forever -- but I wonder whether the old girl will last the three years/100,000 mile warranty provided by Jasper? Any thoughts?

I've got 460.700 miles on my 1992 Buick LeSabre still runs great!

227,000+ on my 2000
I had two with over 200K on both. The engines were simply great as were the ride but the trans on one was a bit flaky but certainly not a deal breaker. The issues were different in each but were minor and always expensive to work on. I wish Buick simply updated the LaSabre and put her on a diet, much like the latest LaCrosse!!
