2011 Lacrosse Trunk Mysteriously Opens

I am very vigorously monitoring my random trunk open issue. I am carefully watching how the key fobs are being handled, I am checking to make sure the trunk is fully closed and latched at all times, I am going out to the garage to check to see if the trunk has come opened and looking for anything that might
trigger the trunk to open.
When I have found it open it usually does not happen again for three or four weeks. It has been two weeks now since the last incident and so far so good.

This trunk demon certainly seems like a hot issue. Only 'How to track your order' has more views/discussion.

Maybe Tricia or Sarah could forward this concern to the higher ups as 'The most discussed problem on our LaCrosse forum'.

Included in everyone's glovebox is a pair of rose tinted glasses!
Ah...Everybody put your pair on if you believe Buick Customer Care will
take this issue to the higher ups.

Like I said earlier it needs to addressed as a safety issue if some people
can now open it while driving.......time for the National Highway Safety people- if they get enough complaints they start looking....considering the
number of people on this thread who have complained.

I took a problem to the gov't about a problem ignored by the manufacturer
and dealership. Rec'd call from gov't...after many others began to complain
gov't looked in the problem.... There was a recall!

In this economy people will do anything for money, especially if the job is warmer than spinning a sandwich sign.

What we need is someone to unsuspectingly crawl into inadvertently popped-open LaCrosse trunks and haphazardly close themselves inside for an indeterminate period of time. The ability to suffer minor physical injury and some emotional stress would be a plus. I think a part time employee would work approximately 3 ½ - 4 hours each weekday and typically would not work on weekends or selected holidays.

Genius! Actually better then my recent plan, I was going to find the power source for the latch, drill into my gas tank and run a couple wires up the neck so I could switch it on/off from behind my gas door... 😀

Having someone in my trunk to close it when it opens makes more sense!

Actually there was a dealership that advertised The Trunk Monkey!
Don't know if they still do....

I like your video, any reason you haven't tried reverse above 5mph? Could be the difference between escape and capture were the trunk to pop mid J-Turn.

Seems other car manufacturers have similar trunk problems, this Ford for example...

Why our of warranty? High mileage?

Yes, I realize my chap stick was in it's hiding spot in the video.. I also use the little square well on the left for change... Had to find all the spaces in this car. lol

I was contacted privately from MHT about this very thing. This concern was forwarded at one point, but I did go ahead and update some numbers and resubmit it. I just wanted to let you know what was happening behind the scenes. Thanks.

I know I should be impressed- but I'm not.

Since major industries moved their Customer Service half around the
world with people who can only answer what they see on a computer
screen- Customer Service is only a paper tiger.

Since it's been shown that the trunk can open when in D or R....instead
of pain in the neck problem- it's now a safety problem.

This weekend I headed for the National Highway Safety site online and
submit a complaint. And I encouraged others to do so. Last time I did
it I rec'd a call from the gov't office for more info. They told if they see
more of this complaint they would investigate it... Less than 6 months later
there was a recall for the problem that both the dealership and the manufacturer claimed there wasn't.

Seriously, please lay off the Customer Service Reps. They are here to assist in whatever capacity they are able to. I'm sure there are dozens more dangerous car issues than a phantom trunk opening. If you are that paranoid about it disable the trunk popper.

I personally had it happen twice in a year and one time I know the fob was in my pocket and the other I was in the trunk prior so I'm not sure I shut it properly. I'm not worrying about it.

The fact is any dealer is going to have a tough time fixing a problem they can't duplicate. These types of behaviors are going to happen more and more with how complicated today's cars are.

I'm not sure there is a motor vehicle regulation requiring that a trunk not open while driving so what you consider a 'safety' issue may not actually be regulated as such.

We've had our 2011 CXS for 2 years and 32000+ miles and our trunk has never opened on it's own.
If I were to have an issue such as yours I would probably remove the fuse for the trunk release relay and re-wire it to a fuse feed that is only hot while the key/ignition is ON. It would be a PITA for trunk operation but I could sleep at night.

I am sorry to say that it took me years to catch on but you are absolutely right. I can live with this issue better than I could with the audio/nav failure issue in the Genesis that Hyundai could not repair because it could not be duplicated.
I only carry two keys on my key fob and I know by design what is causing them to press the key fob button while in my pocket. I am taking them in to the hardware store today to have the corners filed down so they cannot press the trunk open button on the key fob and will see how that works out.
The random trunk open does not happen that often and has only happened while the car has been in the garage, I think that is because when the car is out it is always locked. I never lock it when it is in the garage and am now wondering if the doors being locked would prevent the random trunk open. For those reporting the random trunk open, when your cars were outside or inside were the doors locked or unlocked?

My solution to the KEY FOB ISSUE: I just replaced one of my keys with one that has a larger head. The head of the key is about the size of the fob and the likely hood of the key pressing the button is very slim. I placed my other key behind that key and it appears that the key with the larger head will block that key from pressing the trunk release button on the fob when the keys are in my pocket and I bend a certain way causing a key to press the button.
I will continue to monitor the random trunk open problem but for right now it is really not a major issue as it happens so infrequently and has never happened when the car is outside but so far the car has never been outside over night.

I can hardly believe it, but this morning when I went out to the car it had it's trunk wide open. It took 1 year and 15,000 miles to happen but it did for the 1st time this morning. Car had been locked and was parked outside.

I just had the remote control receiver replaced in the car which has fixed it's short range issue now all of a sudden the trunk pops itself. Hmmm, connection?
