backup camera guidelines disappear randomly..

I read it on his computer monitor with my own eyes but...Okay.

That is what I do...bump it to neutral then back to reverse.

Has anyone with the old dash interface experienced the problem or is it only a problem with the updated system?

Old UI here. It's never happened to me. The old UI has been relatively bug free for me.

Reference 18-NA-385 if you talk to the dealer (December 21, 2018 document)

Ok, I also have the old UI and haven't had any problems with the backup camera or map data. There is clearly a hardware difference with the new system since it is a different part number for the module and using an SD card rather than onboard memory to store map and app data. The new "Infotainment 3" is an apparent effort to standardize across the GM line rather support the wide variation up to this point. I've seen the same new system in the 2019 Chevy Colorado, Camaro, Blazer, and Cadillacs so far. Disappointing but not surprising if they have some early problems supporting the full range of vehicles, but the over-the-air update capability should give them the ability to eventually fix the bugs.

Today the lines still were not working in reverse. Also, I noticed now that the button in the bottom corner to toggle the lines on/off was not there.

If I went into neutral, the lines came back along with the button. Going back to reverse and everything disappeared again.

I noticed that as I shifted from neutral to reverse the button remained for a split second and I was able to hit it right after going into reverse and now the everything works again.

I hadn't mentioned it before and not quite related, but two weeks ago I went into reverse, and the infotainment completely crashed. It was stuck on backup cam even when driving forward. No radio and totally unresponsive to any input. Even shutting off the car for a few seconds when I had a chance to at a stop light didn't fix it.

I got to work expecting that I would have to go to the dealer later, but after it sit for a few hours everything was fine.

I have old UI. No problems......yet.

Not saying I don't believe you... Just can't believe they would actually say that.
No worries. Came back to post the document number and see someone beat me to it. The dealer was as floored as I was on the resolution.

Upon reading the document it appears it has to do with the amount of time the system needs to boot up. Per GM, 45 seconds is satisfactory. Since one of the first things many of us do after starting the car is put it into reverse, I find this highly arrogant on GM's part to call that time frame adequate. The service manager seems to think this may plague other models as well but this document doesn't say that.

I just picked up a new 18 Regal GS and have the same issue.

I work in service at Buick and my technician contacted the Technical Assistance Center and was informed there is a software update supposed to be released next month to address the disappearing backup lines.

That's good news

Is anyone else still having this issue? Mine was still doing it up until a week or two ago but it hasn't done it since.

Or I guess this fix went out? Do we get updates over the air?

Mine has done it a couple of times this past week, not for a while prior to that.

I called Technical Assistance and they are having issues with it passing software verification. The new ETA is mid March.

Who is it that you talk to? Of course my service adviser is clueless and had no idea about these updates. Maybe I can point them in the right direction.

Are they updated OTA, or do you have to go to the dealer?

Decided to record a video since everything was working fine the last time I had it at the dealership.
