Followup to CrossClimate 2 install last month.

In the cold (-10 to -15C, single digits F) on dry pavement, these things act like a regular all seasons in warm weather. They warm up/pressure up even at those temperatures and are very sure-footed at any (legal) speed. Quieter and track better than any winter tire I've ever had. As this is most of our typical winter driving, very impressed.

On icy snow covered roads the grip is still impressive. Feels like a true snow tire for the most part, except the AWD can seduce you into thinking its not as slippery as it really is. Even unplowed streets were no problem. Really liking these tires so far. Fuel economy seems no worse so far but its harder to tell in winter.

If I can get close to the mileage rating on these tires, i'll be buying them again.

I concur with this assessment. I honestly think the CrossClimates are better than some winter tires I've used. I was shocked to make it up my driveway when the undercarriage of the car was dragging and leaving marks in the snow.

I got tired of the tire hop over 45 mph and replaced the foam filled garbage. I put BFGoodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS on the TourX. Sam's had them $80 off. I've always run BFGoodrich Radial T/A or Comp T/A or Comp-2 tires on my GNs or T-Types and have had great performance and life from them. The BFG is a much beefier looking tire than the ContiSilent. And the best thing is no more tire bouncing!

Mine have been great so far and treadwear is better than expected. I don't know that I will get past their warranty, but it will be close. For me that is good enough considering how much better they handle rain and well just handle. Never got to drive them in snow so I have no experience, but I would recommend people looking for more performance check them out.

I live in the deep south, gulf coast region, so snow is a rarity. Much more concerned about rain and you post follows the tire life and performance I've seen with the BFGs.

I have bought at least 12 sets of tires from Tire Rack since the 80's (pre-Internet). Their ratings are from real users and their service is pretty good. If you can't find something that fits your preferences there, I don't know what to tell you.

I stopped buying tires from tires plus when I figured out that my local tire place can get pretty much anything and the installed and balanced cost ended up being less than if I bought the tires from TireRack and shipped to the installer. I have purchased tires pre mounted in custom wheels though. That was nice to just bolt them on then have an extra set of rims for my snow tires on my Volt - pay daily driver before getting the TourX

I've had similar experiences lately w/ still competition and price matching from dealers or smaller shops.

My new tires arrived. Indeed the foam had separated from one of the tires causing really bad vibration. Hindsight being 20/20 maybe I should have just pulled the foam from this one tire and kept driving on this set as they only have 38k miles on them and still had plenty of tread left. alas $900 spent, and I should feel better with great traction and stopping power, plus no fear of another tire losing it’s foam.

IMO foam in the tires is one of the stupidest things they have done. I don't even think it makes a noticeable difference in noise.

Best deal is to have dealer price match the lowest price you can find and then add the rebate on top of it. I have done that at least 3 times.

Same with me with only 35k on tires. Just didn't want to deal with the hassle of waiting on the next one to let loose. When mine were checked after dismounting, one was like your picture, another starting to let loose and the other two were fine. My wife is much more happy and confident with the BFGs on the car and not having to worry about the shaking. Really glad I got the BFGs on sale for a bit over $700 mounted, balanced, with lifetime road hazard warranty and free rotations.

I went with Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3’s. They seem a little noisier on the road with an ever so slight bit of “growling” but it probably isn’t fair to compare brand new sticky tires with worn 38k mile tires - less tread probably means less noise. Plus the last time I drove with the contis was 3 or 4 days ago…. So it’s impossible to actually remember how noisy the tires really were before

I bet they will quiet down a lot after the break in period. The coating they put on the tire for shipping is usually a lot harder than the tires rubber.

I run x-ice 3s in the winter (now) in Michigan. Love them.

I have about 18K on the TPC spec tires (Primacy MXM4) and they're pretty much toast. I narrowed my choices down to the following once spring rolls around:
- Pirelli P Zero A/S Plus
- Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+
- Continental Extremecontact DWS 06 Plus
- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4

My criteria were a speed rating of at least W, UTQG ≥500 and not too much more than $200/tire.

Costco has $150 off a set of Michelins through 2/27, which I'm thinking will probably be enough to push me into the Pilot Sport A/S 4. Get them mounted up to my OEM wheels toward the end of February, ready to go for spring.

I assume you have a sportback since TourX came with Conti's.
Your list of tires I have had no experience with except the DWS 06 which I had on the FWD GP GXP. They were very good in snow for a non dedicated snowtire.
Pontiac put bigger tires on the front on the GXP's that made it more neutral handling then FWD without bigger tires on the front.
Do you work for Ferrellgas?

TourX is in with my mechanic today, to swap out the OEM tires for Michelin CC2's. Then I just got the attached email from Buick Onstar. I guess my mechanic is working on it now! Didn't realize how closely Onstar is monitoring my vehicle...

They know everything.

Nope, my Sportback came with Conti ProContact TX. Only basic trims of Sportback with 17" wheels came with Goodyear Assurance.
DWS06 was commented by many people as being more mushy and taking a hit on fuel economy. I would rather go with Michelin PS4-Primacy Tour/BFG or Conti PureContact LS/General Altimax-G-Max AS-05.
