Carvana Offer......WOW....

Tourx will be picked up tomorrow. I have a black set of 3D SpiderMax floor mats (5 piece set that include the cover for the floor hump in the second row). I will also include the 4 doors storage pockets that fit in the handles and 2 key fobs rubber protectors. All for $110 shipped. I can do paypal or arrange for pickup if you are in southeast Idaho or SLC area ($20 discount for pickup).

So one of my Tourx is sold. Have mixed feeling about this decision and hate to see it go but I did not want to go into retirement with 5 cars. Will be selling couple of cars in the next couple of months leaving my truck and Yukon XL.
I will take the mats and other items. Please send a PM and I will get Paypal payment out right away.

I've considered selling given the strong Carvana offers, but I have no idea what I would get instead. I just test drove the new Ford Mustang Mach E and it was ok - didn't love the seats. The drivers seat does not tilt. I prefer a 10 way drivers seat and the Ford is only a 8 way seat. For $53,000+ Ford could have used better seats. And in reality, that is out of my price range.

I heard an interesting explanation for part of the rise in used car prices on NPR this afternoon. They reported as that travel ramped up so quickly, the car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, etc.) were caught short. Because of the effect of the shortage of electronic chips on new car availability, they bought used cars, so demand began to exceed supply. Just one additional data point to help explain the prices for used cars.

The Avis sales lot near Boston's Logan Airport, where they sell off former rentals, was chock full of cars a week ago. If that is true, why did they not take these cars back into inventory?

It is puzzling because there are car rental locations literally without cars. We have a trip to Denver planned for August and Alamo has zero cars available. The other companies want ridiculous prices.

With the pandemic on on the horizon, and in an attempt to cut cost with no one traveling, rental places axed their vehicle inventory at a discount. As soon as things started to pick back up, they were caught with their pants down and were forced to refill the inventory they offloaded. The sudden increase in demand forced them to buy back their normal operating inventory for dollars on the penny... if that phrase works both ways 😛

It's beginning to play out like the Lord of the Flies around here

FCA plant in Belvidere Illinois is a ghost town, I know what it should look like and then it's the ripple effect as one of there suppliers NTN automotive bearings (they also do Ford, Subaru, Toyota, MB, VW) ialso appears running lean as I know what there parking lots should look like. Grim as it doesn't appear that any of this will be cleared up before the end of the year.

My car made it to Vroom and they listed it for $2600 more than they paid me. Excellent car if anyone is looking to join the very small club of Tourx owners.
Vroom outbid Carvana? That's unusual.

I guess it's better to sell than buy from them

Yes, I tried carmax, Carvana, and one of the rental cars companies (don't recall). Vroom was the best offer. Having seller remorse even though we still have another Tourx. Driving my truck is just not the same.

Looks like the price had peaked.
Some food for thought if anyone is still on the fence.

I went on Vroom yesterday to visit my car 🙁 and it should that it was sold. did not take long. We might have a new member to the forum.

I paid $31k out the door (state taxes included) for an 18 Essence with 30 miles. Probably paid too much but I’ve is short and we just wanted it. I never look at resale values as I drove all of my previous vehicles into the ground (130k to-200k miles) then gave them away. Since my 20k commute is gone, we won’t be driving this car much at all. I just view cars as 1005 depreciation right off the bat, then not worry about it

I paid $1100 for a week and a half minivan rental over Memorial Day weekend. I ordered ahead of time which got me the vehicle, but returning it the Tuesday after Memorial Day was an adventure, so many people left their vehicles overnight that the lot was a traffic jam as more people were arriving to return their cars. The employees were scrambling to move cars to a remote lot as they couldn’t clear the area fast enough, so cars ended in line on a busy street turning a 4 lane with a center turn lane into a 3 lane with center turn lane. It was mayhem.

That said, I probably paid too much last week for my used TourX, but my wife was in a rare car buying mood and she just wanted to be done with driving cross country shopping for a bargain. The $2-4k extra that we spent is tiny in the grand scheme of spending over a lifetime. This was only the 5th car we purchased for ourselves over 27 years of marraige.
