Installation of LED/Turn Signal Fog Lamps for GS

I wonder if there are two versions out there? Mine certainly didn't come in as nice of a box as yours. Mine were in a plain cardboard box that said only 'LED' on it.

My 'wouldn't survive a wash' comment was specifically regarding the little control boxes mine came with. They are absolutely NOT waterproof (at least mine). I am sure these boxes wouldn't survive 'getting wet' (although they may not get wet when washing the car... that was tongue in cheek, but I presume everything under the hood will get wet sooner or later). Did yours look like this (pulled mine out of the garbage):

control_boxes[1].webp

And, unfortunately, several have already chimed in that individual bulbs are going out, so I think that speaks to the overall quality. My point is that the sealing looks 'iffy' on these (none on the boxes, questionably quality on the lights themselves), so my advice is still to do additional sealing before installing either, but especially the unsealed control boxes. I don't see how that could hurt.

Ohh u have that one , I believe its first gen? I had them they were nice but yeah some bulbs did go out on them after a year n a couple months, that's when I bought the ones I have in the picture I posted

I don't know what gen they are, but they have the continuous light strip look, not the individual bulb look, so I thought that was the second gen???

There very well may be various versions out there, of various overall quality. Speaking of the $66 ones I just got from E-bay, I'd recommend against using the completely non-weatherproof 'control boxes' unless they are carefully waterproofed first (only needed to use the 'blinker' feature), and I think some extra water proofing on the light housings and around where the wires come out is a pretty good idea.

I hope they last.

Hey guys if I could ask for a little assistance. I've wired everything up as described (white, yellow, and black from box to white, yellow, and black on the lights, then red to fuse 52, black to ground, and yellow to yellow in the light harness from the box) but my GS lights in 'auto' the yellow LEDs are illuminated. The only way I get the DRL (white light) to work is when I have just the parking lights on, 'auto' mode off. If I have the headlights in 'on' position, all I have is yellow LED. In auto mode or headlights on the LEDs are a solid yellow and nothing changes when activating the turn signal. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you ever figure out what was wrong here? I have the exact same problem. I'm 99% sure that the Yellow blinker wire is not the correct one. That is the headlight wire on our cars. I wonder why ours are different from everyone else's. So I need to know what color wire in that headlight harness is actually for my blinker. I also own the early version of the 2012 GS. I'm not sure if they changed it when they upgraded the radio and stuff in the later version of the 2012 GS.

I can't find a wiring diagram ANYWHERE on the internet. Very frustrating.

For those of you that have this same problem, the Yellow wire is not the blinker (on my car at least). On the passenger side it was a small green wire, and on the driver side it was Gray with blue stripe (I think, or maybe blue with Gray stripe?) I did it last night and trying to remember. It's one of the smaller wires in the bundle. And then instead of doing fuse 52 or fuse 10, I tapped off the parking light wires instead for power. Fuse 52 and 10 only go on when the engine is running. I think going on when your other running lights go on makes a ton more sense. For my car, I hooked both powers (left and right) up to the driver side purple wire in the headlight bundle. Again, this is probably only for my car and the few that are wired the same way. I have a 2012 Regal GS automatic. Mine is the early 2012 version. I sanded my chrome down a bit like others have mentioned. It looks GREAT! And I love the blinker option, especially when pushing the lock/unlock and it flashes orange with the other lights and then back to white when you do remote start.

I hopes this helps those that have a different wiring scheme then the normal ones. I bought mine off ebay for $54 and they are the more solid looking LED lights. I believe these are the newer style also. I didn't think the quality was too bad on them.

Walt G,

I'm on my 3rd set of these and none of mine have been in that designer box. I enjoyed your picture of the switchback boxes, so here are some pics in return.

All of them had a gob of black silicone to keep water from sneaking in where the wires enter the unit.

I can't deal with the way the China "Fangs" don't sit flush in the front bumper so I have been using the Dremel to open up the housing and I then install the LED board into the (removed) GM trim piece. A bead of headlight sealant keeps the China lens affixed to the OEM "fang" housing. After the sealant dries I sand down the edges of the lenses and paint them black. The unit then clicks back into place and doesn't look SO aftermarket.

That's how I roll.

Why are my fogs completely different with never an issue

Not really new to me, but was looking through my phone and found installation pictures of my LED/Fog lights, pretty damn bright at night!!

Recently on my driver side, I had 3-4 LEDs in burn/short out so I'm eventually going to need another set just to replace this side....maybe both if they're aesthetically different than my current ones from China of course.

so just installed these bad boys and they look and fit pretty nice..... one question though... anyway to set these up so that they turn on/off when the headlights turn on/off? As of now they only turn on when engine is running, would like to have them off during the day if its possible

also my lights where a little different from everyone else's... the three wires coming out of the black box where red, black, and white, NOT yellow, and plugging the red wire into fuse#52 caused the yellow leds to stay on, so i plugged in the white wires and now the white leds are good to go

From post #218:

I didn't want mine on any time the key is on (accessory power). I only really wanted them on when the side marker lights are on (lights in the 'parking light' mode, or the HIDs are on). So I wired the white wires to the side marker light wires going to the front headlights. On a 2012 Regal GS, this is a violet with gray stripe wire on the passenger side, and gray with a brown stripe on the driver's side.

Those marker lamps are LEDs in the front, but that same circuit powers regular bulbs in the back, so I figure that circuit can handle the 130mA or so each LED DRL was adding to the circuit.

I see you have a picture with your DRL's on High. How did you do that? It would be nice to be able to switch between low and high whenever I want.

Great write up and pics. I was thinking of buying these a few weeks ago and thought it would be nice for a DIY post on installing them. So you read my mind, again thanks.

Just got mine today. Too cold and rainy at the moment to tackle an install but it's supposed to warm up this weekend.

Spend the rainy day sealing them up with some clear silicone sealant all the way around and where the wires enter. I think the quality varies a lot on these, but mine were pretty bad. They totally didn't look weather proof before I worked them over.

Just for anyone who is thinking of doing this on your Regal. I would be inclined to ask a professional to remove the inserts before you break them like most of the people have done. If you choose to go back it will cost you $160 U.S. to replace the 2 little fang inserts that you broke just to have a LED light.

Just a piece of information you might want to consider.

Bumping this thread because it looks like 'China' changed the design again. Search for 'Regal GS DRL' on E-bay and several come up. If you open them up, some of the pictures show a new design for the wiring. They have an actual connector installed on the wires between the DRL and control box. Some auctions still show the old design with just individual wires that you have to hook up.

I guess China has some sort of quality policy that includes 'delighting the customer' and 'continuous improvement', blah, blah, blah...

I can confirm that they do have a connector between the lights and the electrical box. I ordered a set on eBay for $47 and they look identical to every other set except they have the connector. I also read of a lot of people having to seal the lights to keep moisture out, the ones I received were sealed up really well, I did tape up the electrical box though to keep moisture out of that.

Thanks for the post!!!, I have just bought a set of LEDs.. will update my findings once my baby allow me to open the box 😉
