Sd navigation card.

Maps are made(just security portion)to your vin and you can't use it from different vehicles.
Cards are locked to your VIN when installed in the vehicle, but they're "made" originally not VIN locked.
I was just lucky that this one from eBay seller had not been previously installed in the (rental) vehicle it came in - the card was still i the glove box with the owner's manual.

So you were able to install it? I think they are making it locked to the vin when they are making the card. At least this is what they do with USB upgrades. But if card is not vin locked you bought yourself gold😄 Should be pretty straightforward to raw copy it and sell🙃

You don't give Navdisc your VIN when buying the updates for the SD card systems (at least in the case of these systems in the later Regal) so it arrives unlocked to be installed in any compatible car on the list.

The SD card it isn't married to the car's VIN until you physically install it in the SD slot and then go through the initialization process. The system will ask at the first startup if it is OK to proceed or not and it gives a message that the card will be locked after you agree to the initialization.

I see- I don't have SD card in mine(2018 red needles) and updates are going via USB and they are asking for the vin when purchasing.

They did that too with USB updates on my Saab 9-5. I guess they finally figured out having the car lock it down was one less step on their end to be to just send out the maps off the shelf. But really they should have taken it a step further and made it an OTA update option.

Yeah, I guess it goes down to functionality of the HMI2.5 vs HMI 3.0. But it is gotta be something else there, because anyone could do raw copy of the SD card and re-use the same map pack multiple times. I bet it is pre-locked to SD card serial number, before it is getting locked to the vin.

I would really encourage you to give Android Auto or Apple Car play a chance. You can use your phone for free Google maps and it will be more up-to-date than an sd card.
I like to have offline Navi maps, in the case the phone's battery will die, spotty network coverage or simply you will forget your mobile phone at home.

Those are never issues for me. Can always charge the phone from the car, can download the map ahead of time in case no cell coverage (maybe you didn't know this?), and I don't forget my phone..... Of course now that I say that I will probably forget my phone tomorrow.

Always is good to have a backup plan.

I successfully installed this 2022 GPS Navigation SD Card Map update on my white needle Tourx. Paid $65 plus taxes. Great deal since GM dealers want over $400 for the SD card.

The trouble with that is the navigation info isn't displayed on the HUD as is the case for the inbuilt navigation system.

That's why I upgraded my Navi to the latest version for $60 USD. I have also MA1 Wireless Car Adapter For Android Auto.
Is yours a Red needle or White needle? Mine's a Red needle. For $60USD I'd happily upgrade mine if I could find a source for the nav data.

I've been told it's about $700NZD by the local GM dealer for the update.

Where did you get your update from?

Funny you should post that. I went looking there yesterday. It did give me a clue on the Nav Data provider, Here Maps.

I was going to look at other ways of accessing a subscription/update. I need the USB stick option. There must be other manufacturers using the same infotainment system.

There has to be a way to get the updates, even though Holden tell me there are no updates.

Don't know if it helps but here is a list of US cars that use same USB update.
