I Removed the Plastic Cladding Trim on the Tourx

I have a pearl white TourX, and seeing how much of a PIA removing the cladding is, I think I'm going to experiment with some white plastidip. It's cheap, no real trouble if it starts peeling, and will disguise the trim a little bit similar to how it's already disguised on a darker car.

Either way I'm ordering some H&R springs to lower the whole thing a bit and make it more car-like.

Good Man, I will monitor your progress, no idea how to use plastidip, will hold of and see how it works on your cladding. 😳

I spent some time checking fitment for the following parts and have basically assembled a shopping list for the front bumper and cladding. These parts will provide the same front bumper look as the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer.
I'm assuming some of the hardware like screws and retaining nuts are interchangeable so it can be reused. The bumper lower panel is the same on the Sportback and TourX, the only major part besides the grill that comes over to the new pieces.
Depending on the total costs, you might be able to get this all together for ~$800 (not including core charge on bumper).
If you put these parts together and see a mistake, please feel free to update and I'll edit the post.

Does that include the little pieces on the front of the front wheel wells? I think that is where the main issues come with taking the cladding off because there is a hole through the bodywork there.

The Bumper Cover part number is for a Sportback which doesn't have the cladding.

Okay, who's going first to confirm this is everything 🙂 ? I'm stopping by a paint shop today for a quote on body color painting the plastic over the wheel arches and rocker.

I just recently received a quote on another vehicle from a well respected Collision center. They have done other part spray outs for me very cheaply to a factory condition (small stuff like gas filler door and body colored door handles). My estimate on a ready-to-spray part in factory paint is between $300-$500. If you receive anything different, let us know!

Has anyone removed the lower cladding on the rear bumper? The one that goes around the lower edge and fake muffler cutouts?

I believe @RoRi did but could not tell really tell what was underneath the cladding. From my understanding of reading RoRi's posts, you absolutely need an Opel "rear bumper exhaust molding" (39117536). Do you also need the "bumper side skirt, left and right" (27-39112658/27-39112659)?

Those two items, the left and right skirts, I cannot place on images posted by RoRi or of Sports Tourers in general. I'd love some insight from those with experience.

I think that RoRi sourced those parts from Germany or somewhere in central Europe. If you do some searches for the company that was active on this site, selling to the members, you'll find the parts, costs and shipping details for what you referenced above. I think the owner is just an email away on what you need.

I have been speaking with Adrian at BlitzParts. He provided me quotes. The question is whether or not the left and right "bumper side skirts" are necessary...

They may have been necessary for the @RoRi GSi build, but they may not be necessary for someone (myself) who just wants to make a Sports Tourer. If I can understand what is under the cladding, without taking mine off, I can figure out what I need to purchase. The bumper side skirts are almost 350 euros per side.

The side skirts are available from Buick, they're from the GS.

Yes, I'm not referencing those. I am referencing a left and right side piece for the rear bumper. I'll go digging for the diagram so it can be a visual.

Is #27 (in the image attached)Screenshot_20200530-200048~2.webp necessary when the rear bumper cladding is removed?

Not necessary, but looks nice. I believe it's body color, so would need paint as well.

Cool, I'd love to see it on a car. I don't notice it on RoRi's and haven't seen it on the Opel Sports Tourer images. It is good to know that I would not need this to replace my TourX cladding when removed. Those parts are expensive.

This is so funny..., here in the uk we buy the car because it has the "cladding...." and uprated springs.... surly the car was available in the us as a GS or similar spec as the TourX without the plastic Lol.....!!?? If Not I Can see the logic in it, but here in the uk you can get the VXR / GSI with everything & without the cladding

Good thread tho... I priced the opposite up ( buy the GSI & add the cladding & Springs) which came to about $2k

Unfortunately in the US, we got the "Country Tourer" equivalent, branded as the Buick TourX; no other options for body style. Apparently Americans only like crossovers and SUVs, so a slightly higher ride height and body cladding is what sells...

I disagree but I'll take what I can get.

Ah... I see now why all the fuss now to get the car back to being a Proper Sports Wagon.... I could make a fortune selling you guys the factory GS(I) conversion kits Lol... "Country Tourer" is Very Old English, but TourX is much sexier IMO..... we had a similar problem here when I had my VXR8 (G8) I could only get the saloon in the UK as VX would't import the V8 Wagon from Oz....

You can practice selling stuff to me first. Test out the American market. I won't charge you much to be the experiment 😉
