Noise from front passenger-side suspension...

the GS has the hyper-strut front suspension thus i wonder if that's making different noises that owners aren't used to???

Only problem is, it's only one wheel, not all four. As stated, it sounds like a hollow wobble/ thump when you either hit a right sized pot hole, or get into a rhythym with certain bumps in a row, and it sounds like the wheel is going to fall off.

I recently took my car in for this issue(its the 3rd time) and they finally figured it out with a little help from GM engineers. They replaced one of the motor mounts on the right side. Its a hard issue since it sound like if it was the suspension but its not. Hope this help a lot of you guys with this issue. Now if only someone knew about a repair for the delay on acceleration.

Yeah, I'm hoping the next time my car goes in (3rd time), they'll get an engineer involved. I was talking to a guy at SLP and he said have them set another GS up on a lift and see if the lash in the transmission is the same as mine, and also test drive it and see if it does the same as mine.

Thanks for the update. That noise is driving me crazy, my only complaint with the car. Have they revised the mount or is the original mount defective? Have they indicated how the mount causes a noise like a suspension part? I'll take it in when I return from vacation. Thanks again.

the suspension on my turbo is somewhat noisy...all four corners. more so than most cars i've owned. i think it's normal for this car?? 🙂

My GS suspension is noiseless. The only noise comment I would make is the road noise form the 19" tires. I wonder why some people have no suspension issues and others have all 4 wheels with noise. Maybe where they are built or parts suppliers. Mine was built in Canada.

My suspension is also quiet, except for normal tire thump.
I also have the standard 19" wheels on my GS. Does the problem only affect the GS with optional 20" wheels?

Nope - people with all size wheels have reported problems. Also, standard 4-cylinder and Turbo models as well.

i don't think there is anything wrong with my car...it just sounds clunkier both front and rear vs other vehicles i've owned. could be the michelins...who knows??

Good luck with the motor mount fixing it, already had that done, still there... not as bad, but still there, just muffled.

I have a call into Buick, and an associated Service Request #.... More to come.

Mine still rattles Tricia!
I would be happy to look into this for you. I would need you to contact me privately with more details regarding the concern. It would also be helpful to include your contact information, dealer name, and last eight of your VIN. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have you any updates on this problem? I have to take mine in soon to have this looked at. I was driving yesterday over some wash-board roads and it was very noticable and annoying. Is the broad consensus that it is a motor mount?

Thanks

The motor mount only masks the problem, and lessens it. It's still there, just less "reverb" after the mount is in place.

I've given up trying to get it fixed, and will just get an Audi for my next car (what I should have purchased in the first place).

Some have had the upper strut mount replaced with good results.

I've had the upper strut mount replaced, and the strut. I gave up too, GM thinks we will all just go away. And as soon as I can get out of this absolute lemon of a car, I will go away to another manufacturer. Tricia and GM customer service is a waste of time. If you want to know why Regal sales are in the crapper......be warned.

I finally had my car lemon lawed for this. I had a 2011 regal Turbo 6 and GM upgraded me to a 2012 GS at no charge. Much better car than the turbo and no strut rattle.

Thanks for all the replies. It certainly sounds iffy as to whether it can be fixed; very discouraging for anotherwise beautiful car. My trek will begin next week with a first visit on this issue. I'll printoff your experiences for them to see.

Surprise surprise.... Prior to a 4 hour trip, I double checked the usual suspects (oil, coolant, washer fluid, tire pressure), to make sure I was good to go. Found the front right tire pressure was lower than the others by 4 pounds.

Apparently, the service departments "solution" was to deny they heard the noise, and lower the air pressure in the offending tire to make the tire soak up more of the "thump" to make it appear that it "fixed itself".

So when I put all four tires at 35 PSI, guess what? Thump-o-matic. Never been so disgusted with service departments in my life. Either fix the damn thing, or say you don't know. If you don't know, take my car, and rip it apart and fix the damn thing. Use your "gray matter" between your two ears and figure it out, THAT'S what you get paid to do, right?
