Short lived TourX

I couldn't believe my eyes while shopping for my TourX and I noticed on the window stickers that the Envision was made in China and the Encore in S. Korea. GM really keeps the Envision China connection quiet.
They kept quiet mostly because it doesn't matter in automotive industry today. You can get this information such easily in the first place, as you've said. It's not like they are somehow hiding this fact. Same way why they don't market the Regals by saying it's German quality. It's "made" in China with all the components coming from around the world, like Germany, US, Japan, Mexico, Canada, etc. etc.. They are all assembled together in Shanghai because, well firstly the assembly plant relies heavily on human work (which, in China, is both cheap and good at getting the jobs done) and secondly there is already a factory there, so use it or waste it.

Edit: To add on to CXL below: doesn't matter to the buyers. It matters a whole lot to GM itself.

Looking at Peugeot's website tells me that you're probably correct. They want an all electric fleet of cars by 2025. GM wants to sell only SUV's and, probably like the Buick Envision, SUV's made in China.

Yes, the TourX is doomed.
GM cannot sell it at a price point they want.
For example:
Given the choice between a top trim Mazda CX5 with 250HP-310 Ft-lbs turbo 4 with all the do-dads & features vs a Loaded TourX Essence, if both had an out the door price of $36,000, (MSRP's +40K) which one would you pick?
For same money, CX5 w/ turbo, for sure. Car is nicer. Much better high end interior, even though visibility somewhat sucks and it is a bit on the dark and claustrophobic side. Feature for feature the Mazda beat the TourX a little bit overall. Plus Mazda has the Zoom Zoom driving dynamics figured out. The Lower center of gravity of the TourX will allow it to have the same Performance Specs, but the driving feel reported to be not as well sorted out. I've never driven either a CX5 or a my new TourX, but have at least 159,000 plus miles on various Mazda's so I'm a fan boy.
So the only way to have good TourX sales is to drop the price or improve the TourX.
Facing reality, neither is likely, and with PSA calling the shots, the TourX is going to be one exclusive rare car.
Being an exclusive rare car can be a good thing.
For example my 2003 Cobra brings about 10X what a 2003 Mustang GT brings on the used car market.
Wouldn't if be neat if a 15 year old TourX brings 5-10X what a LTG Chevy Malibu sells for in the 2030's!
Also like the Cobra, most repair parts for a TourX should be available years down the road.

But no way would I or did I choose the CX-5 over the TourX. Just my decision.

Agree with you 100%.

I don’t really care to get into the semantics of why Buick does this or that. I’m just glad they brought this machine here for a limited time so I could enjoy it.

I won't argue. $3K in GM points just rotting away plus incentives made my TourX +$10K less than top trim/ engine CX5. Just GM can't be to happy about that.

It depends on what you're looking for. The CX-5 has barely any rear legroom compared to the TourX, and rear legroom was important to me so the CX-5 is off the shortlist.

Also, the TourX has much more cargo room.

I'm a Mazda fan as well (own an NA Miata) Mazda6, Mazda3, RX-7 all in the past. But no way would I or did I choose the CX-5 over the TourX. Just my decision.

What if the Mazda6 wagon with turbo was available here in the U.S.?

I own a '14 Mazda6 and know absolutely that I would have purchased a turbo wagon Mazda6 over the TourX. It would have been close, but the Mazda would win simply because of driving feel.

It’s doomed because Buick doesn’t advertise them and dealers don’t want to sell. I heard from friends who went to Chicago Auto Show the car wasn’t even on the floor. We bought one in December and with the February deals and auto show cash, thinking about buying a second. Reached out to multiple dealers multiple times who have cars on their website with cars equipped the way I want and none of them have gotten back to me after several days.

But it’s not? I’d love a lot of cars that aren’t sold in the US... but here we are.

If they sold the TourX with the twin turbo diesel and 6 speed manual I’d still buy it over the Mazda you mentioned.

Mazdas turn to dust up here in the great white north.

I agree with this. The Mazda6 wagons are some of the most beautiful ones out there. Unfortunately, Mazda has stuck us with CUVs instead, like most other automakers in the US market.

I would have definitely considered the Mazda6 wagon if available in the US, especially if it had the turbo. My '03 Mazda6 had the V6 engine and I loved it. Unfortunately it wouldn't have nearly the incentives the TourX currently does if it was available. So, I'd still be driving the TourX.

I didn't go to the show, but my wife did, and sent me a picture of our daughter sitting in the driver's seat of a tourx. She said the people looking at it liked the way it looked.

A guy at my daughter's daycare came up to me to ask me about it. He hadn't know it existed, but had seen it a couple days earlier when he took his brother to the GMC dealer. He thought it looked it good.

My 2014 Mazda6 has 144,000 miles on it in Buffalo, NY and it is not garaged (the pattern is full). However, I have an unlimited car wash plan and get it washed at least once a week. It still looks brand new. The only non-wear item I have had to replace is the left front wheel bearing. It is easily the most reliable car I have ever owned. The regular car washes I truly believe are a HUGE part of it . . . I do my own oil changes and the undercarriage still looks like my first oil change.

(Nota Bene - I am starting to see some rust spots festering under the paint on the roof. This is a known, documented problem with the first model year of the 3rd gen Mazda6 - poor metal prep on the roof panel.)

I think I got the inside scoop. Everyone in Michigan is looking out for themselves and their designs. The TourX has nobody going to bat for the car. Literally...the team that developed the car are in Germany and they now work for the French! Yes...there were Michigan liaisons during the development of the TourX, but they are ducking and hiding. It's sad but understandable.

Yesterday I wrote to Buick and explained how much I love my car, and how much I hope they will start marketing it head-to-head against Subaru, Volvo and Audi.

Here is the link if you also wish to write to the powers that be at Buick.

Wrong. I also checked out the 2019 TourX at the Chicago Auto Show. We have the shale interior in our 2018 and the rear carpet in back of second row is Shale. The 2019 changed that and went to black carpet in the cargo area. The only other change I noticed was they went from a mini SD card for maps in the console to a full size SD card.

I just wrote. Think I should of told them I spit up blood when I saw the GM "real people ads?"

Ok, it is all falling into palace now, and GM is not absolutely mad.
The current TourX/ Insignia will most likely have one of the shortest new car platform life's in recent automotive history due to business arrangement change of plan, global trade issues, market conditions, and technology.
I kind of like the name TourX, the new tall wagon. crossover etc. should keep the TourX name.

https://www.motor1.com/news/306259/gm-investing-lansing-plant-crossover/

I think it will take more than $36 million to get a new USA made model going, but I suspect that is the plan.
PSA is partially idling the Opel plant, & GM can't be happy with the arrangement, both companies have other plans.
The plus side is the new "wagon" (whatever) has a bit more ground clearance it appears and probably will be designed to be an electric only ans well as hybrid. At least it is not real tall & ugly. Minus points are where did the cargo volume go? Fog lights? Rails for roof racks? Mirrors?
Initially I'm betting on the LTG with the GM 9 speed. I think GM would use some other components from the Opel, as they designed them, but this would be an all new platform,

I have a July manufactured 2018. It has the shale cargo area but a full size SD card.

My understanding was that it went from NO SD card to the regular on the 2018.5's. I never heard of a mini being used.

Just traded my 12 Acura TL Advance (AWD) with all the toys, paid close to $50k got $13k on trade w/60k on the clock. Wife's Acura TSX Sportwagon cost us $35k and the used market is going up currently worth $17k so I'm hoping this car does the same. I love our wagon and I'm just not a SUV, truck or high rider type of driver.

I'm hoping this car hangs on for at least a few years, possibly a new one before they are gone.
